About the Job

Alexander Herman, MD, PhD and David Darrow, MD are the co-PIs of this unique interdisciplinary lab focused on neurophysiological and neuromodulation studies of decision making, with applications to addiction, chronic pain and mood disorders.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Duties/Responsibilities (Please include percentages of time spent on each):
*Independent analysis and interpretation of complex, multi-dimensional data - 45%
*Computer programming of tasks and analysis methods - 15%
*Computational modelling of behavior and electrophysiology - 15%
*Complex technical communication in the English language - 2%
*Professional interactions with a diverse body of colleagues and research participants - 2%
*Acquisition and maintenance of all necessary requirements (e.g., background checks, immunizations, institutional trainings) for work with human subjects - 1%
*Training and teaching of adult learners from a variety of technical and personal backgrounds 20%
*Transportation of bulky or heavy objects on carts
*Standing or sitting for extended periods

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

-Postdoctoral fellow to conduct and analyze the effects of mood disorders and traumatic brain injury on human decision-making.
-A doctoral degree in a relevant field (neuroscience, psychology, cognitive science) with publications in high quality peer-reviewed journals.
* Strong programming and/or data analysis skills. MATLAB or Python is essential. C/C++ (and derivatives), LabVIEW, and scripting languages could be useful. Prior experience with data acquisition hardware including behavioral as well as EEG would be helpful.
* Experience with neurophysiology (human or animal), psychophysics and/or brain stimulation is ideal.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with specific documentation of those skills through published work and oral scientific presentations.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently, to supervise others, and to independently overcome complex technical and/or interpersonal challenges.
* Interpersonal skills appropriate for collaboration in a very multidisciplinary and highly diverse environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Previous experience with psychiatric patient populations, the biological mechanisms of mental illness, or medical device development.
* Signal processing and/or computer science background.
* Previous experience with human functional imaging or electrophysiology.
