PROCESS ENGINEER - Valparaiso, IN

The Valparaiso Process Engineer provides technical and troubleshooting support of plant operations. The engineer works closely with production and other departments to ensure the plant stays running effectively and efficiently and identifies, designs, and implements process improvements impacting safety, regulatory compliance, quality, and/or productivity improvements.

Responsibilities;

  • Rresponsible for supporting capital projects, PSM activities, and EHS and quality reviews and audits.
  • Successful performance leads to enhanced safety, regulatory compliance, environmental impact, quality, and productivity.
  • Provide operations day-to-day troubleshooting and other process support.
  • Collect, analyze, and act on process data and employee input to troubleshoot operational issues and introduce continual improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborates with production, maintenance, EHS, quality, and other groups on issues and initiatives.
  • Create and update SOP's.
  • Review production capacities, capabilities, and cost estimates for existing and New Product Introductions.
  • Manage up to a few smaller capital projects (<$250 K) simultaneously, including creating designs, scopes, bidding equipment and labor, issuing and receiving purchase orders, overseeing contractor work, and gathering process safety information.
  • Ensures design and installations conform to company standards and plant needs.
  • Provide process support to large capital projects, including creating and reviewing project scopes, designs, gathering process data, collaborating with key stakeholders, and reviewing contractor deliverables.
  • Identify reliability improvement opportunities and provide process support to maintenance, such as specifying new equipment like pumps and instrumentation, and reviewing work orders for process clarity.
  • Complete process safety action items in support of meeting or exceeding PSM requirements for anhydrous ammonia such as updating and maintaining process safety information.
  • Perform risk assessments and complete MOCs for all changes associated with process projects.
  • Assist in relevant root cause investigations and completes assigned corrective actions from them and safety, quality, environmental, and other audits.

Education & Experience:

  • BS in Engineering; preferably in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering.
  • 5 years' experience or more working alongside production, maintenance, and quality in a self-directed support capacity; preferably within heavy industry: chemical, paper, refining.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to clearly and professionally express thoughts and ideas and work with all departments and levels throughout the site.
  • Strong organizational, time management and problem-solving skills are critical.
  • Ability to prioritize to meet multiple priorities and deadlines with minimal supervision.

Preferred:

  • Experience in equipment reliability and/or automation a plus (Foxboro DCS or PLC).
  • Lean and/or Six-Sigma certification or working experience in a Lean Six Sigma environment.
  • Proficiency in AutoCad, Microsoft Project, and/or Minitab or similar software.
