Position Summary
The Office of Business Engagement (OBE) was established in August 2021 with a mission to cultivate long-term, holistic partnerships with companies by aligning business goals with university resources to help expand the positive impact of both organizations. The OBE has three objectives: 1) connect companies across campus; 2) facilitate university-industry research collaboration; and 3) attract corporate philanthropy for UGA priorities.

The Associate Director of Business Engagement is a member of the Office of Business Engagement team and plays a key role in achieving the university's goal to facilitate strategic engagement between key industry partners and UGA faculty and students. The role of the Associate Director will focus on planning and executing large-scale industry engagement programs, organizing staff development opportunities around industry trends and academic research, and evaluating new company leads. The Associate Director will also work closely with the Career Center, Office of Experiential Learning, and other units to facilitate collaboration and communications with campus partners.

The Associate Director reports directly to a Senior Director for Business Engagement and is part of an eight-member team. This role is full-time, Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm, in-office, with some nights, weekends, and overnight travel required for special events and visits to company partners.

Broadscale Industry Engagement
The Associate Director will spend a significant portion of time planning and executing industry engagement activities that bring together industry partners with faculty, staff, and students from across campus. This individual will proactively investigate and identify the best opportunities and partners to be involved in these activities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Develop and execute programming strategy to convene faculty, students, business leaders, and other industry engagement stakeholders around business trends, needs, and opportunities for university-industry partnership. Work closely with the assistant director on event logistics and details.
  • Liaise with the Career Center and Office of Experiential Learning to promote close collaboration around industry partners and to identify new leads.
  • Support unit-based industry conferences, symposia, and events when OBE is involved.
  • Set and meet individual performance goals including planning of events, evaluate meetings with companies, and campus collaboration with on campus partners.
  • Document all activities in the customer relationship management (CRM) system. Maintain clear, concise, and proper documentation.

Industry Partnership Development
This position will evaluate leads coming to the Office of Business Engagement and work closely with OBE senior directors and directors to determine the best approach to engage new partners.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Serve as an initial point of contact for prospective companies seeking to establish a partnership with UGA, using the office's relationship screening tool to best position the company.
  • Collaborate with OBE relationship managers on strategic plans to advance industry partnerships.
  • Generate reports to illustrate the broad impact of industry engagement across key areas campus as well as the performance of OBE in terms of its strategic goals.

Internal Staff Development
The Associate Director will play a leading role in growing the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the Office of Business Engagement.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Proactively develop and execute a professional development plan to build relationships with campus partners, expand awareness of faculty research and university programs, and learn about emerging industry issues and trends. Work closely with the assistant director on event logistics and details.
