SUMMARY OF DUTIES

Directs the Material Department by overseeing the reception, distribution, and general management of raw materials, sub-assemblies, and other materials used in production of products in a responsive and timely manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PERFORMED

  • Directs activities related to the handling of materials, equipment, and services for internal company use.

  • Develops, communicates, and ensures company policies and procedures for materials.

  • Monitors the cost, schedule, and performance aspects of major contracts and subcontracts relevant to material logistics.

  • Responsible for day-to-day fiscal management of the department to ensure compliance with budgets.

  • Manages daily operations, which include staff assignments, manpower utilization, and project administration issues.

  • Ensures materials are properly stored, picked, and distributed to meet company requirements, while maintaining accurate inventory accountability.

  • Develops material schedules and coordinates the efficient movement of materials with production and engineering.

  • Responsible for improving inventory accuracy.

  • Attends meetings and provides guidance and recommendations about materials needs and issues.

  • Evaluates the performance of the department and accepts feedback from department heads to make key organizational decisions.

  • Oversees the approval and control of the materials function, within limits of delegated authority.

  • Investigates all new developments relative to material logistics and makes recommendations designed to reduce costs and improve quality.

  • Assists Materials staff to understand and implement principles of Materials Requirements, distribution, and Just-In-Time to improve production scheduling and achieve production delivery goals.

  • Provides support for supervised employees regarding proper methods of material logistics and inventory control.

  • Actively ensures that inventory control policy and procedures are being met and that productions material request methods are altered or adapted to meet inventory requirements.

  • Interfaces with various departments and personnel to ensure that inventory levels are adequate for customer orders.

  • Manages staff by interviewing, hiring, training, performance evaluation, discipline, and other related duties.

  • Performs other duties, as required.

SUMMARY OF MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance or related field.

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of logistic or materials experience in a manufacturing environment, which includes five (5) years of management experience.

  • A thorough knowledge of Materials Logistics, Manufacturing Resource Planning, and Just-In-Time, and the ability to apply these concepts in a manufacturing environment.

  • A broad knowledge of the principles of management and supervision and the ability to direct the work of others to accomplish goals effectively.

  • Demonstrated computer skills, preferably spreadsheet, word processing, database, and other applicable software programs.

  • Demonstrated experience identifying cost reduction/quality improvement opportunities within a materials environment.

  • General knowledge of inventory control policy and procedures.
