Job Description:

Position: Health Communications Specialist

Reporting to: Senior Director, Communications

Location: Bentonville, AR (On-site)

Heartland Whole Health Institute is dedicated to transforming health care - beginning the Heartland and scaling to disrupt the national health crisis. We advocate, educate, and guide the implementation of an innovative system, rooted in whole health and the realignment of financial incentives. Our team members are collaborative, analytical, mission-driven, and working together to change the status quo.

Construction of the Institute's permanent 75,000-square-foot facility is underway with the goal of opening in late 2024. The Institute will be located on the campus of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art near Alice L. Walton School of Medicine in Bentonville, Arkansas.

About The Position:

As the Health Communications Specialist, you'll play a key role in developing internal and external communications that support the Institute's mission and strategic goals. You'll join a team focused on telling the story of founder Alice Walton's health transformation initiatives, including the Institute and Alice L. Walton School of Medicine, and highlighting the impact of the Institute's role as a health care partner, enabler and educator in the Heartland. You will report into the Senior Director, Health Communications.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop internal and external communications that support the Institute's mission and strategic goals.
  • Manage the Institute's internal and external digital channels and content management systems.
  • Create a wide variety of assets and materials that promote Institute news, information and events. This may include social media posts, photos, web pages, video, graphics, flyers, brochures, newsletters, surveys and more.
  • Manage and enhance internal communications to promote alignment across health transformation initiatives, including town halls, surveys and intranet content.
  • Collaborate with Senior Director, Health Communications to create, edit and publish press releases, key messages and FAQs that follow AP Style and Institute best practices.
  • Manage project timelines and deliverables, as well as maintain consistent and efficient workflows.
  • Prepare monthly reports to track media coverage, website and social media analytics.
  • Support staff presentations, reports and speaking opportunities as needed.
  • Ensure appropriate use of Institute brand, logo and graphics, including overseeing promotional product design and ordering.
  • Assist with responding to media requests and inquiries.
  • Work closely with Senior Director, Health Communications to contribute to the development of a strategic plan for health transformation communications.
  • Research issues, gather data and make recommendations to leadership.
  • Other duties as requested to meet department and organizational needs.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • 3-5 years of related work experience with a strong portfolio of work.
  • Superb writing and editing skills, strong storytelling, and content development.
  • Used to working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with deadlines.
  • Digital savvy, open to learning a variety of platforms and applications, both for internal and external communications.
  • Natural problem solver, organized and highly collaborative.
  • Familiar and proficient with Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, in journalism, marketing, public relations, communications or related field.

Physical demands:In the work environment described, position requires sitting at a desk and utilizing a computer and a telephone for prolonged periods of time and good eye/hand coordination, bending and stretching for filing, and physical stamina to lift a minimum of 10 pounds. Visual acuity to review written materials is required for this job. Additionally, this position requires meeting the public and the organization in a professional and courteous manner.

Work environment:Work will be performed in an office environment. The physical arrangement of the office may require the position to work in an open environment within close proximity to other colleagues. Work will be performed in an office environment full-time (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.) The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate. Occasional evening and weekend work hours, and some local travel will be required.
