The Legal Group protects us against risks and provides the framework for our ethical andcompliant global business practices, enabling Lam to effectively navigate the landscape ofthe semiconductor industry. Their global government affairs team is responsible for advocatingon behalf of Lam with public policymakers.

Within this framework, our IP Group is responsible for all aspects of Lam's Intellectual Property. We are looking to fill an IP counsel position.

This position involves:

  • Strategizing and executing Lam's IP strategy, program, and policies in a cross-functional team environment for Lam's equipment and process technologies. You will be working with chemistry, physics, RF, software, mechanical, and electrical engineering technologies.
  • Collaborating across the broader Legal team to address IP issues in transactions, agreements and disputes.
  • Managing Lam's worldwide patent portfolios across multiple business organizations in the US and internationally.
  • Managing adversarial and enforcement activities - freedom to operation, non-infringement, opposition, litigation etc. - including risk assessments and IP evaluation.
  • Managing outside counsel to execute and effect Lam's IP strategy.
Who We're Looking For
  • Be a registered patent attorney, and one who wants to grow into a multi-faceted IP counsellor.
  • Have excellent interpersonal English-language communication skills: written, oral and presentation and be able to distill and communicate the essence of complex IP matters.
  • Have excellent legal and analytical skills coupled with a good business sense. A strong technical background is essential.
  • Be hard-working, dedicated, and motivated with a strong team-oriented approach. We are too close a team to accommodate 'lone wolves.'
  • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with short deadlines. Able to handle pressure.
  • Preferably have experience supporting cross-functional teams and supporting/developing IP programs in a corporate environment.
  • Be intellectually curious, creative, innovative, accessible and approachable.
  • Not have 'sharp elbows!' We are a co-operative group and will not tolerate people who aren't team players. There are no exceptions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • J.D. from accredited law school, has a USPTO Registration Number, and depending on hiring location California or Oregon bar or admission to the bar in another US state with ability to join the Oregon Bar or be registered as in-house counsel in California.
  • 4+ years of legal experience in a top law firm and/or high-tech in-house legal departments.
  • Experienced in patent portfolio management, patent drafting, patent litigation, and IP due diligence.
  • Background or experience in the semiconductor industry with an ability to understand advanced semiconductor fabrication technologies.
  • B.S. in semiconductor related discipline: Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, or Electrical Engineering preferred.

'On-site Flex' you'll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. 'Virtual Flex' you'll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.

CA San Francisco Bay Area Salary Range for this position: $129,000.00 - $276,000.00

The above salary range for this position is relevant to applicants that reside or work onsite in the California, San Francisco Bay Area only. Salary offers will depend on factors that include the location you work from, your level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Actual salary may vary from salary offered due to numerous factors including but not limited to unpaid time off, unpaid leave, company mandated shutdown, and other relevant factors.
