Job Description

Like other foreign language and culture departments, the German Studies Department employs student apprentice teachers (ATs) to reinforce and complement the work done in its elementary and intermediate language courses.

ATs are expected to teach two 50-minute sessions per week. The hourly pay rate for ATs is the college's "academic rate" - $12/ 12.50/ 13/ 13.50, depending on experience. ATs are also paid for one hour of preparation for every hour they teach (amounting to four hours total in a typical week). ATs report regularly to their supervisor.

Serving as an AT not only pays well (relatively speaking) but is also one of the more important and rewarding student jobs on campus. As past ATs will attest, it is gratifying to teach your peers. Moreover, the job experience you gain should serve you well beyond Davidson. It's almost indispensable if you plan to apply for a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Award, for example. The two German ATs who applied last time both got it!

To apply, make sure you upload a current resume.

Davidson is strongly committed to achieving excellence and cultural diversity, and welcomes applications from women, members of minority groups, and others who would bring additional dimensions to the college's mission.
