Overview

The summer CTE High School Internship cohort will start on Monday June 17th and is scheduled to end on Friday August 2nd (these dates may change). Interns will be scheduled to work a maximum of 16 hours a week (preferably two 8 hour shifts). This is a 6-week, Cone immersion program with hired applicants working in one of Cone Health's Guilford County Emergency Departments. This is a temporary position.

Interns will be placed in one of the following Guilford County Emergency Departments: Moses Cone Hospital Emergency Department, Moses Cone Hospital Emergency Department - Pediatrics, Wesley Long Hospital Emergency Department, MedCenter Drawbridge, and MedCenter High Point.

The Intern gains experience and an overall feel for Cone Health and the healthcare industry and medical professions by attending meetings, delivering presentations, exploring business-specific tasks, and working closely with cross-functional groups to better understand the organization. The intern is assigned to a NT Preceptor, working under constant supervision, to shadow medical professionals from various departments to absorb and learn as much as possible. The intern job participates in a robust training and onboarding program followed by ongoing professional development sessions, lunch-and-learns, and other Cone Health immersion events.

Responsibilities

The intern is given the opportunity to develop service knowledge and competence in tools and processes used in a respective department. The intern observes the care team performance of major job duties. The intern directs all patient care questions to the care team. The intern performs other duties as reasonably required or assigned

For interns under the age of 18, interns are only permitted to perform non-certified/non-licensed tasks aligned with all DOL and NC DOL guidelines related to youth employment.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Required:

    Must be recently completed or in process towards a high school-level or college-level degree in a related field and in good academic standing. Applicants must be at least the age of 16 to be employed as Cone Health High School-level interns (work-authorization required).
  • Applicants must be recent completers of or registered to take GCS' Career and Technical Education (CTE) Nursing Fundamentals and Practicum course.
  • GCS CTE students currently completing or recently completed from a Health Sciences CTE Career Cluster track.

Preferred:

  • GCS Career and Technical Education (CTE) students or recent GCS CTE graduates with Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) completed.
  • GCS CTE students completing or recently completed from the Healthcare Professional (HPCP) CTE Career Pathway track
