Job Description
Protective Life Corporation is seeking an experienced Medical Director to support our Underwriting Department. This is a remote position. The new hire will work with other Medical Directors at Protective and will report to the Chief Underwriting officer.
Principal Responsibilities Include:- Provide medical expertise and timely guidance to the underwriting staff in matters related to risk selection on individual life insurance, long term care, and annuities for impaired lives.
- Perform statistical analysis of mortality as needed.
- Perform case analysis and referrals.
- Provide input as needed on contestable claim reviews.
- Train and develop underwriting staff.
- Participate in various company initiatives including new products and updates to the underwriting guidelines.
- Stay abreast of advances in medicine as well as any innovations in the risk selection process.
- Establish a solid working relationship with medical directors at our reinsurance partners.
- Assist with medical underwriting research and special projects, as needed.
- Possesses a current license to practice medicine.
- Board Certified in Insurance Medicine or willing to obtain board certification.
- Board Certified in a medical specialty
- Experience in the Broker General Agent marketplace
- Complex substandard experience
- Demonstrated expertise in individual life insurance underwriting.
- Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a commitment to excellence.
- Experience in a paperless environment is preferred.
- Strong life Medical Director experience (5+ years).
Protective's targeted salary range for this position is $225,000 to $265,000. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective's total compensation package for employees.
This position also offers additional incentive opportunities through an annual incentive based on individual and Company performance.
