Job Summary

API is seeking a Policy Analyst for its Natural Gas Markets department to support public policy analysis and advocacy, strategic communications, and research work related to demand for U.S.-produced natural gas. The Natural Gas Markets department works to remove unnecessary barriers to the continued use of U.S. natural gas and the continued buildout of U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminals. It also works to communicate the critical role U.S. natural gas can play in a lower carbon energy future. The successful Policy Analyst will provide technical and policy support to the team as required and will also assist other API departments including Communications and Federal Relations by providing critical information and analysis to support key policy objectives. The role will also support certain administrative functions.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the development of API policy positions surrounding the markets for natural gas, LNG, electricity and low-carbon technologies like hydrogen and carbon capture and sequestration (CCS).
  • Monitors proposed regulations, legislation and policies related to U.S. natural gas and provides issue updates to management.
  • Monitors and/or conducts (with supervision provided) analyses related to assigned subject matter.
  • Supports API committee efforts in assigned subject matter area.
  • Responds to events quickly and providesinformation/data for API to use to communicate industry viewpoints.
  • Coordinates with vendors and API financial operations to ensure that contracts are effectively processed and executed.
  • Attends and conducts analyses of relevant external meetings (Capitol Hill/Administration/3rdparty events) and provides analytical reports to staff.

Qualifications

  • 0-3 years of experience in a similar role and subject matter expertise.
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant area, or other related field equivalent work experience
  • Initiative and ability to work both independently and collegially with others are essential.
  • Excellent communications (written, verbal and graphical), planning, organizational skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to remain in a stationary position working on a computer
  • Move about the office to access office machinery, meeting rooms, etc. on occasion
  • Operate a computer and other office machinery such as printers and copy machines
  • Transport items and equipment up to 10 lbs. on occasion

Travel Requirements

  • Approximately 10% but may vary based on individual job needs and function.

Percentage of travel time expected for the position, where the travel occurs, such as locally or in specific countries or states, and whether the travel is overnight.
