BCBSNE is happy to offer four work designations for our Omaha area employees: 100% in-office, Hybrid - 3 days in office, Hybrid - 2 days in office, 100% remote. Occasional visits to the office.

The Sr. Software Engineer position will be responsible for working with cross-functional business teams to lead the necessary steps to research, design, test, and maintain various complex systems and applications. This role is responsible for providing extensive engineering knowledge and experience to deliver complex and impactful solutions to the business on new system builds. This role will assist with mentoring and bringing best practices to the team.

What You'll Do:

  • Utilize your knowledge and previous experience to lead the necessary steps to research, design, test, and maintain various complex systems and applications, some of which may be cross departmental.
  • Demonstrate passion and integrity, with the drive to excel in designing, engineering and supporting complex software systems. Will utilize this passion to assist fellow team members and work together to provide business solutions at various levels.
  • Ensure our enterprise-level products and applications are stable, secure, and scalable.
  • Collaborate with upper-level roles on architectural decisions to ensure solutions are designed for successful implementation within the vision of the enterprise architecture.
  • Communicate with other teams, stakeholders and leadership to ensure alignment and business confidence in solutions being delivered.
  • Make impactful decisions using available information in a responsible timeframe.
  • Collaborate with Infrastructure to help monitor and performance tune data structures and pipelines for optimal use and best practice.
  • Support defining objectives and company culture.

To be qualified for this position, you must have:

  • Bachelor's degree and 4-7 years of experience in software engineering. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted to meet this requirement.
  • Expertise with Tools/Technologies like Azure, C#/.Net and SQL.
  • Expertise designing, maintaining, documenting and presenting: data storage, user interfaces, and backend systems.
  • Serve on successful implementations of large-scale and complex projects.
  • Served as an inter- team mentor to promote stable, secure, and scalable enterprise-level solutions.
  • Expertise with Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Delivery (CD) and Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) practices including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Expertise in creating and maintaining different authorization and authentication processes.
  • Expertise with distributed computing and enterprise-wide systems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts across varying audiences.

The strongest candidates will also have:

  • Experience managing and developing mobile platforms on iOS and Android
  • Build features and applications with a mobile responsive design
  • Experience developing desktop and mobile applications
  • Proven experience as a Full Stack Developer or similar role with comfort in both front-end and back-end coding languages, development frameworks and third-party libraries.
  • Experience working in multiple languages and are comfortable and quick to learn a new language, framework, or technology
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Desire to think in a creative, lateral way both conceptually and in practical application.
  • You must be obsessed with addressing customer needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with Azure AD AuthN/AuthZ strategies.
  • Experience creating Single Sign On (SSO) experiences.
  • Possess emotional intelligence.
