This position has the ability to be remote or work out of the following offices: Sheboygan, WI, Farmington Hills, MI, Akron, OH, and Oak Ridge, TN

The Work

We are currently seeking a Project Chemist who support environmental projects related to federal, state, municipal, and commercial clients. You will be responsible for: data validation and data quality assessment support, supporting field investigations through the development of sample summary tables, sample ID nomenclature, sample labels, and chains of custody.

The Ideal Candidate

A versatile professional will have at least six years relevant experience in the application of chemical principles at environmental investigation and remediation sites.

Education, Experience and Requirements

  • BS/BA degree in Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline is required.
  • Support the procurement of analytical laboratories and coordination with analytical laboratories.
  • Experience conducting multiple levels of data validation, up to and including detailed reviews of full laboratory data packages (equivalent to Stage 4 reviews of Level 4 data packages). Experienced in the application of the EPA CLP National Functional Guidelines for organic, inorganic, and high-resolution data review. Broad experience validating analytical data for both inorganic parameters (metals and wet chemical methods) and organic parameters (volatile and semi volatile organic compounds, pesticides, herbicides, polychlorinated biphenyl compounds, and dioxins/furans).
  • Prepare proposals, procure, and oversee laboratory services and approve invoices.
  • Provide technical expertise related to data quality objectives, sample collection, laboratory analytical methods/procedures, electronic data reporting, data quality assurance, and data evaluation.
  • Conduct field and laboratory technical system audits. Prepare technical reports and papers, and QAPPs.
  • Ensure project- and QAPP-specific data requirements are met.
  • Support field efforts by preparing sampling plans and field documentation. Work with data management to manage data flow from the laboratory to final reporting.
  • Provide analytical chemistry and laboratory analytical method expertise to support program performance and issue resolutions.
  • Interpret and record data, conduct analyses, compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Provide technical expertise for the evaluation of analytical laboratory performance and qualification.
  • Working knowledge of the latest version of the DoD Quality Systems Manual.
  • Experience reviewing and managing environmental data and databases using software such as Microsoft Access is preferred.
  • Ability to interface with clients, subcontractors, working groups, and internal customers required.
  • Work with minimal supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member. Perform data review and validation for multi-media data.
  • Support the preparation of technical deliverables through the development of data validation reports, analytical result tables, Uniform Federal Policy - Quality Control Project Plans (UFP-QAPPs). Will work collaboratively with and under the supervision of a project or program manager.
