Job Description

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Technology Manager, the Color Matcher creates color formulations to meet customer requirements, and is involved in training, troubleshooting and problem solving. Provides guidance to the Color Matching staff.

Essential Functions

  • Creates formulations that meet the customer's requirements in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • Completes color design using the appropriate combination of different additives, pigments, dyes, and polymers.
  • Injection Molder operation.
  • Analytical scale operation.
  • Ensures formulations comply to customer's specifications, such as medical, FDA, weather, and other requirements.
  • Corresponds with the customer as required.
  • Trains and mentors lower level Color designers.
  • Problem solves and troubleshoots.
  • Prepares reports including those to support sales and business projects.
  • Enters data into the SAP system to maintain complete and timely records.
  • Builds the file match capability by entering match data into the color computer system.
  • Uses spectrophotometer to store match data into the color computer system.
  • Observes applicable safety, health, and environmental rules and guidelines. Uses appropriate protective equipment.
  • Ensures required paperwork is completed properly and accurately
  • Performs other tasks as requested.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors in Color Design, Plastics Engineering, polymer science, chemistry or related Engineering field required.
  • Advanced degree or experience a plus
  • In lieu of degree, 5+ year's related experience in Color Design/Matching
  • Injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, thermoforming experience a plus

Technical Competencies

  • Strong Color Design/Matching skills
  • Strong injection molding and/or extrusion processing skills. Knowledge of other processing methods a plus
  • Strong mold and part design skills
  • Capability to think outside the box and work on cutting edge concepts
  • Proficiency with color software and SAP
  • Understanding of plastics materials and compounding processes
  • Performs work with speed and accuracy.
  • Adheres to internal Avient policies and rules. Interprets Technical Data sheets (TDS) / Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and provide proper instruction

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED
