Position Overview:

As part of our commitment to our community and to our customers, our Business Services team focuses on large scale electrical demand projects and technically challenging distributed energy (solar, wind, hydro, etc.) interconnection projects. From ideation to energization, Business Services is the sole point of contact for our customers to bring their dreams to reality.

As a Project Developer, you will apply your technical background and customer service skills to provide top tier service to developers, institutions, design firms and contractors. You will oversee a portfolio of new or upgraded service projects and serve as the customer liaison from initial service request until energization of the service. The Project Developer's main focus is on the day-to-day assessment and management of projects related to new customer development and the associated requests for electrical connection.

Location: Hybrid, downtown Pittsburgh, PA and surrounding area.

  • Job Responsibilities: Using knowledge of and familiarity with Duquesne Light design standards, methods of construction, material requirements, provide customers with thoughtful project advice to help them to achieve their projected goals
  • Communicate with customer hired experts such as design engineers, architects, general contractors, electrical contractors, etc. the scope, timeline and requirements of customer electrical service projects
  • Develop, refine and implement internal processes to coordinate with internal DLC stakeholders and to communicate project information to customers
  • Track and report project milestones to the customer and the DLC team
  • Investigate and communicate; specific design criteria, engineering considerations, economic estimates, installation and construction milestones, and NESC clearance requirements to the internal and external stakeholders
  • Consult with and receive advice from DLC employees, customers and vendors to become thoroughly familiar with a project and to obtain necessary design and cost information.
    • Communicate design and cost information to customers and their consultants as well as internal project stakeholders
  • Inspect sites of proposed installations to provide design constraints and scope recommendations to the Distribution Planning team

  • Responsible for excellent customer service and providing sound engineering advice and financial estimates.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline required.
    • In lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of education and experience in an operations or production environment will be considered.
  • Three (3) years of relevant experience in an operations or production environment is required.
  • Experience in customer problem solving is required.
  • Experience in the engineering and construction of utility transmission and distribution construction projects is strongly preferred.

Scope

Primary focus is on daily deliverables, outputs and reporting. Typically accountable for managing one's own time and workflow. Responsible for using prescribed guidelines to analyze situations and solve problems. Work activities are typically moderate to complex in nature requiring the incumbent to draw on previous knowledge to perform role. Continues to build knowledge base but has a solid foundation to act independently the majority of the time. Still draws on experts and managers when needed but less frequently.

Decision Impact

Problems and issues faced are vague. Draws on past experience on a regular basis. Accountable for direct level of reasoning and decision making.

Hybrid Work

Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.

Storm Roles

All Non-Union Employees will serve in storm roles as appropriate to their role and skillset. Please be sure to discuss storm roles with the hiring manager for this position, as duties can vary across the Company.Examples of storm roles could include but aren't limited to duties such as: working with operations for service center support or with the communications, customer service or government affairs teams to respond to public and customer requests for information, etc.

Data Governance

Utilize data to make business decisions as appropriate for the position, support data stewardship activities and partner with IT on underlying data needs.
