Analyst - Finance Systems Support
American Public Education, Inc.

As a Finance Reporting Analyst within our Finance Systems team, you will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and compliant regulatory reporting related to higher education institutions. Your responsibilities will include validating and overseeing the reporting processes for forms such as 1098T (related to tuition payments) and 9010 (related to educational institutions).

This position reports to the AVP, Finance Systems. There are no direct or indirect reports.

Key Accountabilities:

Data Validation:
o Validate data from various sources, including student records, financial systems, and institutional databases.
o Validate data accuracy and completeness to ensure reliable reporting.
Reporting and Compliance:
o Validate and submit regular reports to meet institutional, and federal requirements. Specifically, 1098T and 9010 higher education required reporting.
o Collaborate with departments to ensure compliance with reporting guidelines.
o Monitor changes in reporting regulations and adjust processes accordingly.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
o Utilize tools such as Power BI to analyze data and generate meaningful insights.
o Create dashboards and visualizations to track regulatory compliance metrics.
o Prepare regular reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Process Improvement:
o Continuously assess and enhance existing reporting processes.
o Identify areas for automation using tools like Power Automate.
o Collaborate with IT teams to streamline data collection and reporting workflows.
Knowledge Management:
o Stay informed about changes in regulations affecting higher education institutions.
o Maintain up-to-date documentation on reporting procedures and compliance requirements.
o Provide training to staff members involved in the reporting process.
System Familiarity:
o Proficiency in Management Reporter, which is commonly used for financial reporting.
o Familiarity with SmartConnect for data integration and transformation.
o Understanding of Smart Lists (a feature in Microsoft Dynamics GP) for data retrieval and analysis.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in Finance is required.
  • Experience in Great Plains preferred.
  • Experience with Windows based applications (specifically Excel) is required.
