Position description

The UCSB McNair Scholars Program is searching for a professional with experience working with low-income,
first-generation and/or underrepresented students who engage in undergraduate research and participate in
graduate school preparation programs. The Program Director is a full-time campus- and federally-funded administrative appointment that reports to the Faculty Director. The Program Director supervises the McNair staff, manages the overall operation of the program, and coordinates activities with related units and programs that support the McNair Scholars Program. In consultation with the Faculty Director, the areas of responsibility for the Program Director include: program implementation and evaluation; curriculum development; program management, including supervision of staff and budget management; and marketing and campus/community relations.

About the Program: The McNair Scholars Program prepares qualified undergraduates for entrance to graduate programs in all fields of study. The goals of McNair are to increase the number of first-generation, low-income and/or underrepresented students in Ph.D. programs, ultimately diversifying academia, government, and industry, among other fields. To do so, scholars have the opportunities to participate in academic year and summer research activities; attend courses, seminars and workshops on topics related to graduate school preparation; complete a research project under the guidance of a faculty mentor; and present their research at local, regional and national conferences. across the country.

The program is supported by the U.S. Department of Education (Federal TRiO Program), Office of the Executive
Vice Chancellor and the deans of the College of Letters and Sciences and Graduate Division. The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and service as appropriate to the position

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

* Master's Degree
* Minimum of 3 years of managerial/supervisory experience

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

* At least 6 months of experience working with target population (first generation college-bound students, low-income students, and/or students who have historically been underrepresented in graduate education)
* Available to work occasional evenings and weekends

Preferred qualifications

* PhD desired
* Experience or knowledge of U.S. Department of Education programs desired
