OVERVIEW

We are seeking a talented and experienced Trade compliance professional to focus on Trade & Customs Policy & Compliance to develop and lead key programs and initiatives.

In this role, you will utilize your customs/trade expertise to perform trade compliance activities in areas such as risk assessment, valuation reviews, customs compliance programs and regional/global customs (export/import) compliance improvement projects. You'll work closely with other members of the Global Trade Services team and internal business units to address risk and leverage customs opportunities, develop, and implement control and compliance framework, contribute to government inquiries, and provide advisory mentorship and training.

Cross-functional Collaboration with various departments, including logistics, finance, Tax, legal, finance, Govt Affairs, ITQ/FSQ, Global Security, External Supply Chain, and Sourcing, to align global trade practices with overall business objectives.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive trade compliance programs, education plans, and trade policies to ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and company objectives, utilizing a risk-based approach.
  • Oversee annual compliance assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks associated with global trade, such as regulatory changes, geopolitical factors, and supply chain disruptions.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and consultant to the business, providing expert guidance on trade compliance matters, including import/export programs, controls, sanctions, valuation, customs laws, and trade agreements.
  • Monitor changes in relevant laws and regulations and adjust policies accordingly.
  • Collaborate closely with internal and external partners to assess the trade compliance program's effectiveness.
  • Develop, and evaluate controls, identify potential risks and areas for improvement.
  • Partner with the business on new cross border projects.
  • Oversee the process to ensure new products and Trade Lanes are set up compliantly with Tax, Customs, Finance and Financial Systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in International Supply Chain, International Affairs, Finance, Business Administration, or other related experience
  • 4+ years' experience in import/export regulatory compliance or similar function for a global organization with international trade experience required
  • Experience providing strong collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders globally
  • Experience strategically thinking while embracing a learning mindset and comfort with agility in a dynamic environment
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Process Optimization/Continuous Improvement
  • Expert competency in the following import/export compliance areas: Classification, Customs Valuation, Free Trade Agreement origin, Antidumping/Countervailing/Quota regimes, compliance programs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience implementing a risk-based trade compliance program.
  • Customs Brokers License and/or other professional trade certification equivalent in Customs/Export compliance.
  • Knowledgeable in international shipping and customs procedures.
  • Import and Export Human and/or Pet food regulatory experience

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • The preferred location for this role is Minneapolis, MN however remote work-at-home applications will be considered

Salary Range



The salary range for this position is $90100.00 - $135300.00 / Annually. At General Mills we strive for each employee's pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role. The salary range for this role represents the numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, educations, skills, work experience, certifications, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
