Description Position Summary

McLean SouthEast in Middleborough (MSE) seeks a Facility Manager (FM) who can skillfully balance the daily demands of repair, maintenance, and capital renewal with the hospital's mission to improve the lives of people with mental illness. Working in coordination with the McLean Facilities team in Belmont, the FM motivates and guides the MSE Facilities team to provide a welcoming and regulatory-compliant environment.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities
  • Takes all precautions required by Hospital standards and OSHA requirements. Educates team and promotes a "Safety First" culture within the Facilities team. Adheres to all safety, life safety, and equipment management programs as required by the Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies: DPH, DMH, MWRA, OSHA, etc.
  • Leads local regulatory inspections and participates in safety rounds, proactively identifying potential EOC concerns. Guides team to quick resolution.
  • Has primary site responsibility for maintaining documentation of continuous compliance with facilities-related inspections; keeps abreast of current requirements; and ensures registrations and permits are current.
  • Responsible for managing team of three (3) maintenance technicians to monitor day to day facility operations, progress of preventative maintenance tasks, and work order request status. The Facility Manager oversees external maintenance vendors associated with both comfort and safety: environmental services, landscaping, snowplowing, pest control, waste removal, etc.
  • Responsible for 24/7 infrastructure operations of the MSE physical plant, suggesting improvements for local Preventive Maintenance programs, and following through with implementation. May recommend new methods and procedures for work standards and/or training schedules to improve trade performance.
  • Determines need for alterations or repairs and gives initial approval for materials, supplies, and equipment purchases as governed by budgetary responsibilities. Assembles and presents to senior leadership cost estimates for larger local renovations and/or capital equipment. Reviews construction drawings of new and renovation projects. Makes recommendations for improvements, additions, or deletions.
  • Leads preparation of site-specific non-salary department budget. Reviews contracts for content prior to final review by leadership. Prepares and submits purchase orders.
  • Successfully creates effective client rapport (internally and externally) building mutually beneficial business relationships.
  • Provides expertise re: building construction and plant maintenance craft licensure, purchasing, government regulations and codes.
  • The FM represents the McLean MSE Facilities team on various institutional committees.
  • Responds to emergencies, incidents, and shutdowns during business hours as well as occasionally at nights or on weekends.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Qualifications

An Associate or Bachelor degree is preferred in a related field: Building Technology, Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or equivalent. Extensive experience in healthcare facilities management will be considered in combination with a High School / Technical School diploma or GED.

Facilities Management certification preferred.

3 - 5 years' experience in supervisory or management roles required, preferably in a health care or research setting.

Valid motor vehicle driver's license required.

Required Experience and Skills

Prior Facilities Management experience.

Broad knowledge of

  • Joint Commission standards: both implementation and successful continuing maintenance;
  • biohazardous and hazardous waste removal requirements;
  • Life Safety standards; and
  • At least one specialized system, such as fire protection and/or HVAC.

General knowledge of

  • ADA accessibility guidelines;
  • Person of size guidelines;
  • Town permitting requirements;
  • Utility systems distribution (steam, electrical, water); and
  • Building construction methods and procedures.

Team management experience in a fast-paced setting.

Shows enthusiasm and dedication to customer service through professional conduct, exceptional care, and positive actions.

Handles difficult situations tactfully and constructively.

Successfully resolves crisis and safety-related issues.

Takes a proactive approach to balancing multiple tasks in a changing environment.

Demonstrates strong written language and communication skills.

Can explain past experience with an array of computer skills, including a mid-level of proficiency with spreadsheets, presentations, and word processing programs as well as work order systems.

Must be able to read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations at level generally acquired through a high school education.
