Essential Job Duties | Living and Learning Villages are communities within University Housing residential spaces where students, staff, and/or faculty engage in programs that are tailored to Village-specific content and strategies. Villages provide students with the opportunity to connect with other NC State community members who share a common interest or lived experience through curricular and co-curricular programs. As partnership-focused professionals, Village Program Directors collaborate with offices, departments, and colleges all across NC State to ensure that students within these specialized communities have access to the best our campus has to offer. Arts Village Overview: A Living and Learning Village is a place where students, staff, and faculty are engaged around common learning outcomes and interests to Think and Do in a shared residential environment. Villages provide connected curricular and co-curricular experiences to foster a sense of belonging, cultivate an intellectually enriching environment, and support the development of the whole student. As content-area professionals, Village Directors sustain all aspects of the program's day-to-day operations, programmatic leadership and long-term vision and strategic planning for Village enhancement and growth. As one of our 15 Living and Learning Programs, the Arts Village is a dynamic community created in collaboration with Arts NC State that unites students from various personal and academic backgrounds who have a passion for the arts and continues their exploration of broadly defined arts disciplines. The Arts Village educates and develops the whole person through developing students' creativity and engagement with arts on campus and in the broader community. The goal of the Arts Village is for students to continue their development in and through the arts well after they leave NC State, becoming art-engaged active citizens. The Arts Village Director is the strategic lead bringing this community to life in close alignment with Arts NC State and other partners. The Arts Village Director teaches the Arts Village Forum (AVS 100) linked 1-credit hour experiential course to immerse students in the cultural life of the NC State campus and surrounding community. Students deepen their knowledge through learning and engagement in various art forms and the creation of an original artwork for a capstone project. The course offers direct experience with multiple arts events through visual and performing arts programs of Arts NC State.
