Summary

The Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) develops, coordinates, and supervises the implementation and maintenance of a project occupational health and safety program designed to prevent injury, occupational illness, and damage to property. The SSHO works with the onsite Construction Superintendent and Project Manager, subcontractors, and other third-party entities to develop construction means and methods that meet all the minimum OSHA and other applicable regulatory minimum standards for safety and health.

The salary range for this position is $107,711-$134,638/year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Drafts project specific manuals, including preparation and distribution of updates
• Determines applicability of administrative and regulatory requirements and other health and safety laws and implement applicable regulations and Maintain current knowledge of legislation regulations and practices applicable to the United States and the

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

• Establishes and implements safety training Plans and schedules tasks related to health and safety. Conducts safety/health related training. Maintains all records and data related to project employee and subcontractor training, medical examinations, licenses, and certifications. Conducts safety orientation and weekly safety meetings.
• Represents the company in inspections and hearings conducted by client, OSHA and other regulatory
• Conducts and supervises site inspections, job hazard analyses and other evaluations to identify hazard and potential risks. Makes recommendations to managers, as required, and implements appropriate corrective actions. Conducts audits of corrective actions to ensure compliance with regulations and corrective
• Reviews and approves subcontractor site specific safety
• Conducts post-accident investigations and makes recommendations for changes in equipment and processes to correct unsafe conditions. Assesses accident statistics to determine requirements for new or modified training.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years work experience as a SSHO with at least 5 years of experience on construction industry projects, specifically with the Federal Government
  • 2 years of the 5 years of experience may be substituted with CSP certification -or-
  • 2 years of the 5 years of experience may be substituted with a degree in Safety & Health
• 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training
• 30-Hour OSHA training or equivalent
• Knowledge of principles and practices of USACE EM 385-1-1 and industrial and occupational safety and health program administration
• Knowledge of pertinent local, state, and federal laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations
• Knowledge of principles and techniques of employee training
• Knowledge of report preparation and statistical analysis

Preferred Qualifications

• CSP certification
• Strong experience in civil / infrastructure construction and airfield paving

Ability to preserve confidential information is a critical component of this position. This position may require occasional weekend and evening work. Candidate is subject to a reference check, credit check, or background investigation and may be required to meet other suitability criteria as outlined in government contact requirements. Candidate must be authorized to perform work in the U.S. and provide evidence of credentials, as requested. Must have the 30-hour OSHA construction safety class or equivalent within the past five years. Must have participated in at least 24 hours of formal safety training each year for the past five years with training as "competent person" status in the following four areas: excavation and confined space. Must be able to produce written verification of certifications and training. Certified by owner agencies when necessary.

Physical Demands

• Frequent lifting, sitting, standing, stooping for prolonged periods of time, using hands/fingers requiring dexterity, should have good hand-eye coordination and motion control in coordination with handling tools, equipment, and other related
• Reaching with hands and arms for items above and below sight level, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth, color perception, and the ability to adjust focus); walking from place to place within the project location with occasional use of stairs and no elevator available; bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for up to 8 hours.

Work Environment

• Indoors and outdoors, may be subject to changes in temperature and noise While outdoors may be subject to construction site conditions, confined spaces, changes in temperature, extreme ambient weather conditions and noise levels.
• This job also requires operation in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Work Schedule: Normally Monday - Friday, 40+ hours a week
