Senior Compensation Analyst
American Public Education, Inc.

The Senior Compensation Analyst is responsible for supporting the compensation function for the Enterprise to include Staff, Faculty, and variable compensation. The Senior Compensation Analyst plans, develops, and implements new and revised compensation programs, policies, and procedures to align with the organization(s) goals and align with competitive practices. This position is also responsible for ensuring that company compensation programs are consistently administered in compliance with internal policies and government regulations. As a Senior Compensation Analyst, you will report to the Director of Compensation. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports. This role works cross-functionally across HR and enterprise teams to influence and support leaders and peers.

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the development, implementation, administration, and continual improvement of the compensation program for APEI and its education units.
  • Assist in the development and execution of the annual compensation planning process including communications, reporting, and ensuring accuracy of data files.
  • Leads compensation survey submissions, analyze market data trends, and compensation practices within relevant industries and geographical areas to maintain the company's competitive position. Develops simple and effective presentations that assesses market competitiveness and demonstrates the business case for any recommended changes.
  • Acts as a trusted resource to HR Business Partners, Talent Acquisition, and other business partners to conduct job analysis and market pricing of new and existing jobs and making recommendation on appropriate compensation strategies.
  • Provide leaders guidance and counsel on salary proposals, salary structure, job evaluations, promotion requests and other comp related programs to support organizational priorities.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of existing compensation practices and recommends changes that are cost-effective and consistent with compensation trends and Enterprise objectives.
  • Conduct on-going research and analysis to understand industry and organization-specific issues.
  • Maintain a current understanding of best practices in compensation and HR in general that will improve service delivery.
  • Support management on relevant analyses, including continual definition of best metrics and reporting methods.
  • Assists in pay equity reviews and compensation strategies conducting initial analysis and investigation on cases and providing recommendations.
  • Work closely with HR leadership to identify, develop, implement, and monitor compensation action plans to address key themes.
  • Designs creative solutions to specific compensation-related programs and incentive plans.
  • Develops techniques for compiling, preparing, and presenting data and recommendations.
  • Work with HRIS, HR Reporting and internal data analytics to develop appropriate reporting cadences and format that support effective information sharing with HR Business Partner teams and Sr. HR Leadership.
  • Collaborate with Learning & Development partners to align on development activities for compensation; facilitate workshops and offerings, as needed.
  • Work in partnership with Internal and Corporate Communications to implement effective communication plans.
  • Support equity administration in partnership with Finance, Legal, and the Company's external equity plan administrator.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local compensation laws and regulations.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years progressive compensation experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent relationship building
  • Ability to tailor creative and innovative solutions and effectively present information to all levels inclusive of senior leadership.
  • Proficient at managing time and resources and detail-oriented
  • Ability to manage multiple high priority and high visibility projects at once.
  • Knowledge of all major aspects of compensation delivery, and familiar with compensation design principles for base pay and short- and long-term incentives
  • Strong business acumen and experience with complex compensation programs (salary structures, job evaluations, incentive design).
  • Knowledge of Federal and State Employment Law as well as current employment related legislation
  • Must have proven experience developing market benchmark processes and ability to present findings and recommendations to leaders.
  • Project management experience of annual compensation planning processes.
  • Excellent analytical skills with advanced level of Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Clear and professional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with ability to present and generate engagement from across all levels of leadership.
  • Experience with compensation in HRIS systems preferred. UKG Pro experience a plus

Education/Certifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • SHRM and/or CPC
