JOB SUMMARY, DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS:

Job Summary

The Academic Coach is part of an inclusive resource network through the Academic Resource Center and provides direct support to students for increased success in learning, motivation, agency, course completion, and student success skills. The Academic Coach will develop academic skills enhancement materials, provide access to supportive resources, and facilitate workshops throughout the semester that provide students with skills to enhance their understanding of course content through the reinforcement of course concepts. The Academic Coach will guide the student in developing a growth mindset, study and time management skills, and assist them in understanding their individual learning style. This is a Part-time, Limited Term Employment (LTE), grant funded position that will end after the 2024-2025 fiscal year.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully with or without reasonable accommodation.

Direct Student Support:

  • Create a welcoming, comfortable learning environment for students who require additional academic skills enhancement to successfully complete their NTC coursework.

  • Provide enhanced, embedded, and targeted academic coaching support to students in identified courses and students retaking courses

  • Facilitate individual and group learning sessions focused on enhancing student learning strategies academic and student success skills development to excel in their courses.

  • Assist students individually with the development of improved study skills, time management, growth mindset, and learning strategies.

  • Serve as an advocate for at-risk students as they move through critical course milestones.

  • Serve as the primary academic coach for esports athletes

  • Create video recordings and digital materials as a resource repository for students to access on their own time.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening hours

Communication & Record Keeping:

  • Serve as the liaison between the Academic Resource Center, faculty, and students to coordinate, schedule, and provide supplemental support, workshop sessions, and resources that support students in their academic skills development, learning strategies, and student success skills across NTC's district.

  • Refer students to all service resources necessary for their success.

  • Accurately maintain detailed records of student participation and learning outcomes using college systems.

  • Assist with scheduling student appointments

Other:

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening hours

Minimum Qualifications Required

In limited circumstances, NTC may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Experience: <2 years

Preferred:

  • Experience with Starfish and student database systems

  • Experience working with a diverse student population

  • Knowledge of NTC programs and resources


Additional Experience Information:

  • Minimum of two years related experience.

  • Efficient in Microsoft Office products, including email and calendar.

  • Strong commitment to learner success and experience working in a team environment.

  • Demonstrate experience in conflict resolution and relationship management.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of adult learning styles/strategies.

  • Strong planning and organizational skills with attention to detail.
