Position Summary

At STERIS, Buyer II's are responsible for collaborating with Operations and/or Product Management to define strategic sourcing partners. You will be directly responsible for procurement and management of assigned product lines/commodities and to manage the supplier base and products purchased from outside sources to conform to IMS's strategic partnerships, engineering documents (as applicable), policies, procedures, work instructions, and ISO/GMP/regulatory requirements. The buyer's responsibilities do not vary in the scope or function but in the authorization levels and strategic commodity duties assigned.

What You Will Do

* Build and maintain relationships with strategic partners to ensure long-term sourcing of critical components and products. Research and find second source vendors to mitigate risk associated with sole-source situations.
* Secure quotes from qualified suppliers of assigned materials to obtain favorable prices and services consistent with quality requirements.
* Purchase product to support inventory and/or non-inventory requirements as defined by Operational and Product Management forecasting. Ensure supply to meet business needs.
* Appropriately manage purchase order process including timely placement of orders, managing delivery dates, maintaining accurate order delivery dates, and expediting purchase orders in order to maintain material flow and provide customer requests.
* Manage and maintain Oracle and appropriate purchasing files as required.
* Plan and negotiate long-term contracts with favorable impact on inventory goals, quality, continuity of supply and corporate cost objectives.
* Negotiate and facilitate the return of non-conforming material.


* Identify excess / obsolete material or products and work with Operations, Engineering, and Accounting on disposition.

* Actively participate in weekly / monthly / quarterly meeting with Operations, Engineering and Quality to ensure good communication and coordination of sourcing activities in support of the business.


* Coordinate with Accounts Payable and suppliers to resolve any issues with purchase orders and invoices.

* Analyze suppliers for financial health and stability of the Company. Assist quality department in assessing the supplier's ability to meet IMS's quality requirements.

* Manage product line and/or commodity to meet strategic position of the company.

* Select and maintain suppliers to support IMS's procurement, quality, and ISO requirements.

* Works with Quality Control for inventory items and the requisitioners for non-inventory items to assure that the supplier fully understands the quality requirements of the purchase. Participates in any quality audits of assigned supplier and maintains records, which will allow IMS to evaluate supplier performance.

What Will Help You Be Successful
  • Bachelor degree required.
  • Minimum of one (3) to (5) years experience in purchasing, quality control, engineering, marketing, or manufacturing. Experience preferred but not required if Degree is in Supply Chain Management.

  • Possess strong negotiating skills.
  • ERP systems experience strongly preferred.
  • Understanding lean concepts / experience preferred.
