WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor - Part Time

Starting pay $18.55

We are seeking a Part Time WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor who will be responsible for giving basic breastfeeding information and encouragement to WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.

Responsibilities include: attend breastfeeding training classes to become a peer counselor; receive a caseload of WIC clients and make routine periodic contacts with all clients assigned; provide follow through with each client; provide basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers, including informing them about the benefits of breastfeeding, overcoming common barriers, and getting a good start with breastfeeding.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Previous experience breastfeeding at least one baby (does not have to be currently breastfeeding).
  • Is enthusiastic about breastfeeding, and wants to help other mothers enjoy a positive experience.
  • Willing to make phone calls from home beyond the WIC clinic hours.
  • Has reliable transportation and holds a valid driver's license.
  • Excellent customer service, organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of the participant population.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Proficient computer skills required in basic computer software and data collection systems.
  • Ability to remain calm and exercise judgment in unusual or stressful situations.
  • Bilingual skills (Portuguese/Spanish) preferred.

Work Schedule:

  • The position will be 19 hours per week and will include evening and Saturday hours. This is a hybrid position.
