We are looking for the next Corporate Controller to oversee the day-to-day accounting and financial planning operations. The Controller will report to the President and have high visibility to the leadership team at Shannon & Wilson. We are seeking qualified candidates for this full time (40 hour per week), exempt position. Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and direct audit, tax, accounting, and financial planning for the organization.
  • Appraise organization's financial position and issue periodic financial and operating reports. Analyze the firm's tax position throughout the year.
  • Lead in the preparation of annual operating budgets.
  • Act as immediate contact with the firm's CPA or other advisors on accounting matters and provide reports to the President as needed.
  • Act as immediate contact with the firm's bank. Maintain and reconcile banking records.
  • Prepare for and participate in audit of firm's overhead rate and keep up to date on FAR requirements.
  • Administer the Shannon & Wilson Retirement Plans; organize and chair quarterly meetings with internal and external advisors; prepare documentation for annual audits.
  • Direct the Accounting staff in procedures and systems necessary to maintain proper records and to afford adequate accounting controls and services.
  • Manage and evaluate the performance of the Accounting staff, train, coach and mentor, and coordinate workload.
  • Maintain current knowledge of policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
  • Operate as the BST software administrator and actively train all personnel at the level needed for fully utilizing the system.
  • Follow Shannon & Wilson's Quality Assurance policy.
  • Follow and promote Shannon & Wilson's Health & Safety and Loss Prevention policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President.
Qualifications
  • BS degree in Accounting with at least 10 years of experience, CPA preferred.
  • * Proficiency with GAAP and preparing month- and year-end closing of the general ledger.
  • * Supervisory and management skills.
  • * Experience in engineering consulting industry accounting a plus.
  • * Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • * Strong decision-making skills with the ability to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • * Must have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to successfully interact with clients, vendors and staff at all levels in order to convey information effectively.
  • * Possess excellent communication skills including written, verbal and presentation.
  • * Ability to multitask in a fast-paced atmosphere, with a good understanding of the time-critical nature of producing financial and other reports, and the importance of providing superior client service.
  • * Must be personable, flexible, and professional.
  • * Must be willing and able to travel to support the needs of other Shannon & Wilson offices.
  • * Must have a valid drive license and insurable driving record.
  • * Must have advanced skills in using Outlook, Word, and Excel. Experience with databases and Paycom HRIS a plus.
  • * Experience with BST accounting software a plus.
  • * This position requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and lifting and carrying 20 pounds; ability to travel (drive or fly to other S&W offices locally and out of state).

The Controller will be hired in as a Senior Associate and the salary range is $130,000-$165,000. The starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including an individual's knowledge, skills, education and experience. In addition to base pay, all employees are also eligible for an annual year-end discretionary bonus. If an employee is exempt, they are eligible to accrue comp time in hours excess of 40 each week.
