Job Position Purpose / Summary

This technician position will work closely with the product development team to ensure all specification requirements are effectively and efficiently tested. In addition, this position is also responsible for the physical, mechanical, and chemical tests of current and new product designs.

Job Position Accountabilities / Expectations

General Core Competencies

  • Must perform testing in a competent manner according to publish test methods. Must understand and be fully committed to impartiality and perform all testing in an unbiased manner.

  • Able to read and understanding internal and external standardized test methods, protocols, and work instructions

  • Able to understand and learn good laboratory practices and good documentation practices.

  • Can be trained on standardized test methods, protocols, and work instructions and can understand work direction from project needs or from collegues outside of the lab.

  • Good time management skills to effectively manage work to ensure timely, quality driven execution of deliverables.

  • Basic project management skills, setting project / task deadlines, managing technician schedules, machine utilization and appropriately prioritize workload for organization, self, and others.

  • Good sense of self discipline in completing assigned tasks, knows personal strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and limits; seeks feedback; gains insights from mistakes; is open to criticism; isn't defensive. Controls self and manages weaknesses; pursues what one thinks is right.

  • Good attention to detail and accomplishes tasks thoroughly through concern for all areas involved. Monitors and checks work or information and plans and organizes time and resources efficiently.

  • Good communication skills, can effectively communicate, interact with, present to, and work with many different people and groups about project work.

Job Specific Responsibilities:

  • Can learn lab information system (EtQ, LIMSey) to read test requests and enter data.

  • Ability to meet with lab customers (test requestors) for training on test methods, results, and to seek clarification and directions as needed.

  • Will participate in Lean / 6S / 6 sigma projects at a basic level, will manitain a clean and organized work space.

Qualifications / Education / Experience / Skill Required

  • Minimum of high school diploma, with some college level work desirable.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Ability to organize and present data in a clear and concise manner.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using laboratory tools/instrumentation including (calipers, micrometers, vision systems, tensile testers, etc).

  • Working knowledge of other laboratory software and mechanical drafting a plus.

  • Average or better verbal and written communications skills.

  • Familiar with ISO, ANSI, AAMI, ASTM standards for testing.

  • Familiar with Good Laboratory Practices.

  • Basic hand tool operation and use, i.e. torque wrench.

  • Use of precision measuring tools, i.e. calipers, micrometer, depth gauge.

  • Self starter.
