Job Description

1. Job Overview

The Operations Trainer will develop standard training work instructions for all processes in the plant. The Trainer will assess incumbent operators and assistants for skills and knowledge gaps. They will implement OJT and classroom instruction to close the gaps moving co-workers to their next level. The Operations Trainer will also work with Operations Management to improve the processes in the plant.

2. Job Dimensions

  • Part of the AF-Asheville Operations Team
  • No direct reports
  • Design and develop training work instructions to insure repeatable and consistent training
  • Assess talent skills and knowledge gaps and implement solutions
  • Provide hands-on job instruction to trainees
  • Map out training plans and schedules for co-workers
  • Operate machines as required to cover for co-worker absences

3. Principal Accountabilities

  • Develops training programs for both on the job and any necessary classroom related technical instruction
  • Provides one-to-one hands-on instruction for assistants and operators
  • Delivers training classes or sponsor O.E.M or supplier training as necessary
  • Assesses instructional effectiveness and determines the impact of training on co-worker skills and KPIs
  • Certifies co-worker competence as operators or assistants
  • Assists in administration of parts, inventories, usage tracking, etc.
  • Trains and coaches co-workers on existing and new safety procedures, quality assurance standards and operating processes
  • Works with Shift Supervisors on process improvement projects
  • Works with vendors and other facilities to gain knowledge of equipment, process, and operations to help improve safety, functionality and quality
  • Works with Quality Assurance to ensure that co-workers are up-to-date on all current quality issues and standards
  • Works with Maintenance to ensure that all mechanical issues are communicated and addressed. Also, works with Maintenance to improve equipment function and safety
  • Sets both short-term and long-term improvement goals for operations
  • Works with planning, shipping, and CAMs to ensure all orders are being completed in a timely manner
  • Assists with following trials when necessary

4. Major challenges & complexities

  • Coordinating with internal and external sources to improve operations
  • Co-worker skills and knowledge evaluation
  • Shift flexibility for on the job training and related technical instruction
  • Instructing multiple trainees to upskill the department as quickly as possible

6. Qualifications/Requirements

6.1 Formal Qualifications and Experience

Knowledge and Experience

  • 10+ years in manufacturing and production
  • 10+ years' experience in Adhesive Lamination, Extrusion Lamination, or Rotogravure Printing
  • High level of experience and proficiency in safety, quality and processes of all the equipment at AF Asheville

Education and Certifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Fork Lift Operator

6.2 Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Behaviours

Job Specific skills and abilities

  • Good computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Knowledge of all equipment and processes at AF Asheville
  • Must be able to flex hours to support multi-shift operation
  • Organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills
  • Excellent leadership and teambuilding skills
  • Must prioritize safety, above all else
