Role Summary

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to work in our vehicle-level ADAS test team. The Autonomy Test Engineer will enable Rivian's vehicle test program with vehicle level feature testing, robotics maintenance & operations, vehicle tuning and ensuring ADAS regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will be organized, able to manage multiple projects and have strong background in electronics, robotics and/or vehicle architecture.

This full-time role requires the flexibility of traveling (up to 20%) to various domestic and international destinations as necessary, to test vehicles on public roads, test tracks and Proving Grounds


Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams (ADAS, Autonomy, Functional Safety) and test sites to clarify test requirements, collect data, execute testing (DVP, software regression, development) and validate vehicle performance.
  • Develop test plans, scenario suites, automation scripts and tooling for feature data collection and validation to shorten testing life cycle and meet program milestones. (Vehicle/Pedestrian Detection, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, etc.)
  • Analyze test data against internal requirements and write test reports with recommendations to design teams and communicate issues and root cause analysis.
  • Install, troubleshoot and maintain vehicle loggers, ADAS test robots, test equipment and prototype vehicles, including liaising with suppliers and managing targets and parts inventory.
  • Maintain test vehicle software and proactively collaborate cross-functionally to solve vehicle-level hardware and software issues.
  • Design, fabricate and modify vehicle instrumentation, test equipment and data acquisition systems as needed.
  • Participate in on & off-site vehicle tests (travel up to 20%).

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience operating, maintaining and troubleshooting advanced electronics, mechatronics or robotics systems.
  • Hands-on experience flashing and debugging complex vehicle systems.
  • Experience with ground truth equipment (Oxford OXTS, Novatel, dGPS, Racelogic VBOX).
  • Hands-on experience with automotive electrical systems and communication protocols (CAN, Flexray, XCP, Ethernet, LIN) and relevant debug tools (Vector CANalyzer, Vehicle Spy, Python, etc.).
  • Experience with SW integration and development lifecycle, software tools, languages, protocols, and configuration management SW (JAMA, JIRA, Confluence, GIT, Python, Matlab, SQL, Python, Go, CAPL etc.)
  • Valid US driver's license.
  • B.S. degree or strong technical background in Mechanical, Automotive, Electrical, SW, Mechatronics, Robotics, or Computer Science / Engineering or a related field. An associate degree with suitable technical experience would also be considered.
  • Excellent analytical, technical, problem solving, communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and effectively in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Experience with ADAS, autonomous vehicles, functional safety, regulatory testing, Vehicle Dynamics, or related field (ex. US NCAP, EU NCAP, IIHS, ISO26262 / IEC61508, Automotive SPICE). (Preferred)
  • Experience with steering, braking and acceleration robots, robot test targets and tow targets (Moshon, AB Dynamics, 4A, Messring, Humanetics). (Preferred)
  • Experience driving prototype vehicles, including proving grounds, limit driving and/or certifications. (Preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with in-vehicle data acquisition and logging systems. (Preferred)
