Overview

You don't have to be an employee long before you understand the SSOE difference. It goes back to our history of reinventing ourselves for new markets, serious rates of growth year after year, and being ahead of the curve in technology. Those are the achievements of a company that rewards talent and effort in ways that mean the most to the individual. When you work at SSOE, you work with the best and you're a part of something bigger than yourself. And providing the best possible workplace for our employees gives us a competitive advantage - helping us attract and retain top talent and drive better business results.

The Building Design Group's (BDG) business development is based upon a "seller-doer" model where senior project architects and engineers (primarily Principals, Business Leaders, and other SMEs) are primarily responsible for overall business development, client relationships, attending conferences, coordinating with related consultants, helping to identify opportunities, coordinating with contractors and construction managers, and other industry relationships. A Business Development Coordinator role will support these efforts through coordination with the BDG Principals and Business Leaders. This will be a hybrid position and will require commuting to our office 3-4 days/week.

Responsibilities

The following duties are typical of the position but are not all encompassing. Responsibilities include those required to deliver quality service on schedule and within budget in a team environment. This will be a hybrid position and will require commuting to our office 3-4 days/week.

Track and manage business development (BD) action items for identified opportunities.
  • Hold regular one on one meetings with each seller-doer to develop business development plan and action items for the upcoming period and review action items for previous periods.
  • Track and record interactions with clients in company software.
  • Research, align, and coordinate pre-RFP (Request for Proposal) work and capture planning.
  • Research and document business trends within market segments. Regularly summarize and communicate the strategic implications of this research to operations leadership in a centralized location for incorporation into business planning and distil it into actionable tactics for the BD staff.
  • Coordinate allied organization sponsorships, conference participation, personalized outreach to members, etc., including assistance with lining up client meetings for SSOE attendees during such events.
  • Research, recommend, and drive engagement of seller-doers in our client trade organizations across the relevant hub locations and at a national level.
  • Research relevant industry conferences and recommend relevant participants. Participate in these conferences including administrative duties, participant sign-ups, booth management, client dinners and other on-site activities, including attendance and participation at conferences when appropriate.
  • Participate in strategic discussions related to BDG and Hub business development planning. Record notes and track action items in a centralized location to drive accountability.
  • Based on strategic discussions, knowledge of upcoming opportunities, and observed needs, communicate the need for BDG-specific sell sheets, tailored collateral, and messaging by market and/or strategic initiatives to marketing. Provide input on target audience, goals of the collateral, and knowledge of key messages to facilitate marketing's development of these materials.
  • Coordinate and manage relationships and follow-up cadence with allied consultants, contractors, construction managers, and other industry partners through in-person and virtual meetings and other communication as required. Ensure coordination of these messaging and engagement with other operations who also have active relationships.
  • Based on engagement in the sales process provide marketing with relevant intelligence to enhance their development of interview materials and development of presentations.
  • Participate in go/no-go meetings.
  • Monitor solicitation procurement sites for potential projects of interest, communicating these opportunities with the appropriate BDG Business Leaders or Horizontal Practice Group leaders for further review. Track follow-up to ensure timely response.
  • Participate in local, regional, and national business development trade organizations with the goal of building a relevant network for leads and partnerships. (SMPS, etc.) Coordinate participation by others in unrepresented hub locations.
  • Develop a regular cadence of meetings (or plug into existing meetings) to ensure continuous movement on the above items.
  • Develop and maintain a centralized information hub containing research, action plans, upcoming conferences, and other responsibilities outlined above to ensure a single source of truth and ease coordination between teams.
  • In addition to virtual meetings, the position would require travel to all BDG Hub locations for collaboration, participation at various conference and tradeshow locations, and client and partner sites to maintain relationships.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, sales, or related field preferred, with five to ten years of related experience.
  • Salary Range: $60,000-$70,000/year depending on location, education, experience, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.
  • Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, 401K, PTO & paid holidays.
