Huntsman is seeking a Chemical Process Engineer supporting the Advanced Materials Division located in Harrison City, PA . This position will report to the Harrison City Site Manager.

Job Scope

The chemical process engineer utilizes technical information and knowledge of chemistry to design and develop the processes that make a diverse range of chemical products. Their work focuses on an understanding of how to efficiently alter raw materials into desired products while minimizing health, safety and cost risks.

As the Chemical Process Engineer, you will:

  • Deploy new processes and systems for chemical manufacturing.
    • Utilize engineering principles to review technical design information.
    • Define process requirements.
    • Design processes to meet those requirements.
    • Oversee process implementation.

  • Lead technical development efforts at the site level.
    • Evaluate data, concepts, and feedback from others to identify and develop improvement efforts.
    • Work in cross functional teams to review improvement concepts and select projects intended to improve safety, health, efficiency, quality, and cost.
    • Provide technical expertise to support design of equipment and processes needed for improvements.
    • Generating procedures, instructions, and training documents for operation of systems to drive continual improvement efforts.
    • Lead and participate in PSM related tasks including PHAs, MOCs, PSSRs, etc.

  • Execute projects to deploy manufacturing processes and systems.
    • Use effective project management techniques to identify stakeholders and resources.
    • Manage capital projects.
    • Coordinate associated activities with vendors and external contacts.

  • Maintain technical documentation for process systems and evaluations.
    • Generate and update drawings, calculations, and design specifications of manufacturing systems.

Required Qualifications:

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering or similar degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 10+ years of experience leading process design efforts.
  • Excellent organization skills to manage project documentation, costs, and timeline.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of employees to plan, organize, and complete multiple projects from inception to startup.
  • Basic understanding of process equipment design including pumps, heat exchangers, valves, polymerization reactors, pressure relief valve sizing, material balances, and instrument specifications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office suite
  • Manufacturing experience with flammable or highly hazardous chemicals, with demonstrated excellent safe work behaviors. (PSM/RMP preferred)
  • Comfortable functioning in a variety of roles ranging from plant floor troubleshooting and problem solving leading to long term process and quality improvements.
  • Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing experience preferred. Green Belt or Black Belt certification would be advantageous.

Working conditions:

Within the general range of an office environment. Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach and move about facilities. Ability to walk or stand for up to three hours at a time. This position may require the use of respiratory protection.
The plant has many jobs which will require outside work so conditions will range from cold and snowy in the winter months to very hot in the summer months. Working in inclement weather may be necessary.

Physical requirements

  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • This position must also be able to perform industrial field work which may include hazardous locations, ladders, and stairs.
  • Lifting to 40 lbs., frequent standing, and twisting, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, pushing/pulling, overhead and horizontal reaching, bending, squatting, kneeling, grasping, forceful gripping/pinching.
