Job Description

The Finance Operations Director is responsible for leading the teams that handle various financial and accounting responsibilities. The role works closely with and supports the Controller on strategic initiatives that includes business process redesign, understanding system design, partnering with the IT organization on system initiatives and supporting the ongoing needs to the accounting and finance organization and the functions they support. The leader will direct the scope of multiple department team leaders that perform a variety of duties that may include product ownership of various finance and accounting systems and applications, billing, payroll and other operational activities and functions that support the organization. The role will be critical in the path forward to create a more automated, tech-enabled finance and accounting set of capabilities


  • Applies understanding of the existing Finance Systems landscape to identify opportunities for efficiency and improvement and work with the IT organization to deliver system enhancements and/or implement new applications.
  • Defines long-term strategy, helps drive prioritization, analyze trade-offs, and collaborates on the overall Financial systems roadmap to improve existing and future state of operations.
  • Leads team through ERP redesign to deployment, recommending standardized solutions and ensuring appropriate stakeholder buy-in and signoff. Ensure high quality and value-added documentation of functional and technical solution design.
  • Leads the evaluation of new technologies, tools, and automation solutions to the overall finance and accounting value streams.
  • Partners with key business stakeholders on their finance, reporting and billing needs related to new products, distribution channels and businesses, enabled by an agile and integrated finance back office.
  • Leads professionals and leaders who are responsible for the management of our finance systems (approximately 30 systems and applications), billing and other finance back office operational activities.
  • Develops controls and performs reviews to ensure the integrity and use of various software applications, focusing on financial, expense allocation, annual statement software, investment and reinsurance systems.
  • Acts as primary liaison between the Controller's group and IT, providing finance systems assistance and support as needed.
  • Reviews all processes regularly and identifies opportunities for improvements and transformation to ensure that financial reporting and accounting is efficient and effective.
  • Collaborates with other departments to ensure financial data and analysis are available to support strategic decision-making.
  • Owns accountability for talent management and navigation of employee related issues that impact morale and work environment to ensure a high performing team including hiring and selection, succession planning, performance and compensation management, and employee development and career coaching as required. Manages priorities and workload distribution and removes barriers that impede progress.

  • 12+years of experience in Financial Accounting/Reporting or a related field with 5+ years of people management
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field and/or commensurate experience.
