Overview

BigBear.ai is seeking an experienced and detailed-oriented Accounting Manager. The Accounting Manager will play a critical role in managing and overseeing the financial operations at BigBear.ai. This position requires a detail-oriented and experienced accounting professional who can ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records, lead the accounting team, and support financial reporting in a public company. The ideal candidate will have a strong background and experience in accounting, excellent leadership skills, and a passion for leveraging technology and improving processes to drive efficiency and effectiveness.

This role can be performed fully remotely.


What you will do

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting Operations / Reporting:

  • Assist the Controller in leading the monthly close process including planning, managing the close checklist, and reviewing workpapers and reconciliations.
  • Manage monthly journal entries to ensure all journal entries are properly setup, recorded to the proper departments and GL accounts, and have appropriate documentation and approvals.
  • Prepare monthly reporting package and research drivers of significant fluctuations.
  • Support quarterly SEC reporting by drafting and maintaining footnote support schedules.
  • Serve as a liaison to the external auditors to coordinate on PBC requests, responding to inquiries, and project managing review / audit engagements.

Accounting Systems:

  • Support accounting systems administration to ensure reporting is complete and accurate.
  • Work with stakeholders to manage data governance, new reporting structures, and data tagging.
  • Identify and implement system improvements and new functionality.
  • Perform recurring data integrity checks with systems administration team to ensure data governance policies and procedures are working effectively.

Policy and Compliance:

  • Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with the internal audit team to ensure SOX compliance and documentation.
  • Manage credit facility covenant compliance reporting requirements.
  • Support DCAA-related compliance, including ad-hoc audits and Incurred Cost Submissions.

Team Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Supervise and mentor senior accountant and other general ledger staff.
  • Serve as a leader across the accounting function to drive timely and accurate reporting.
  • Drive process improvements and adopt best practices within the accounting function.
  • Work closely with other departments to support financial decision-making and provide financial insights.
  • Lead and participate in special projects as needed to support the company's strategic objectives.


What you need to have

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • CPA certification
  • Proven experience (8 - 10 years) in accounting
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP financial reporting standards and regulatory requirements
  • Experience with ERP systems and other accounting and reporting software
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work well under pressure
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team

What we'd like you to have

  • Understanding of the government contracting industry.
  • Experience with Unanet, FloQast, and/or Workiva.
  • Experience with services revenue recognition and SaaS/subscription-based revenue models.
