For over 40 years, Manchester Industries, a Clearwater Paper Company, has demonstrated a passion for providing packaging and paperboard solutions to our customers. Manchester's five strategic locations ensure speed to market and a high-quality product. With a total of fourteen precision sheeters, three slitter rewinders, five guillotines, and four carton packing lines, we have the capacity to produce over 170,000 tons of finished product for the marketplace. We maintain an average daily inventory of over 16,000 tons to meet the demands of our customers providing "Just in Time" service for customer needs.

The Manchester Industries Richmond, Virginia location is located in the capital city of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Richmond has become a bustling metropolitan city while still maintaining its history and charm. Just 90 miles south of Washington, D.C., and 40 miles west of Williamsburg, Richmond offers exciting opportunities for travel. Richmond is located along the banks of the beautiful James River and is home to numerous historic districts. Downtown Richmond offers small town feel with big city experience offering fine dining, local breweries, shopping, and festivals. There are several museums including the Children's Museum of Richmond, the Virginia Center for Architecture, Valentine Richmond History Center, and the Old Dominion Railway Museum. The Richmond Ballet and Richmond Symphony offer cultural opportunities throughout the year. Several parks are located along the James River offering bike trails, hiking, and nature trails, and many scenic overlooks along the river's route through the city. The James River itself offers one of the best opportunities for white-water rafting/canoeing/kayaking in the country. The city of Richmond offers several exceptional K-12 schools, several private schools, and well-known colleges and universities including Virginia Commonwealth, University of Richmond, and Virginia Union University.

We offer competitive starting pay with increases after 6 months and 12 months of employment, with good performance. Shift differential for working 2nd and 3rd shifts. Benefits eligibility as of the 31st day of employment.

What you will do
The Shift leader is responsible for the safety, quality, and production of the shift team, and may fulfill a position within the crew or backfill in various positions as business needs dictate. They will also be responsible for team members' "on-the-job" training and maintaining accurate work procedures and practices. The Shift Leader is also expected to be a model for consistency, work ethic, attitude, behavior, overtime, and a person who gives reliable feedback to the Production Manager for work-related issues in the plant. The Shift Leader works without supervision and communicates effectively with Team Members.

  • Ensure a safe work environment and practices.
  • Ensure general plant cleanliness and organization.
  • Employee training in all Production positions.
  • Ensure accurate work procedures and practices.
  • Direct Team Members regarding proper job performance.
  • Direct Team Members to comply with company policies.
  • Promote continuous improvement and teamwork.
  • Monitor area supplies and inform the supervisor if levels become low.
  • Communicate with Maintenance about any machine or building issues.
  • Assist with scheduling and ensure orders are completed for on-time delivery.
  • Assist shipping and receiving (2nd and 3rd shifts responsible for inbound and outbound).
  • Cover scheduled and unscheduled time off.
  • Cover any positions needed for breaks and lunches.
  • Direct Team Members during shift start-up meetings.
  • Act in a manner consistent with company values and attitudes.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Production Manager.

What you will need
To be successful in this position, we are looking for candidates with the following:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent (required)
  • Minimum 2 years continuous full-time work experience (required)
  • Industrial production or operator experience (preferred)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to operate a forklift.
  • Able to perform and understand basic mathematical calculations.
  • Able to read and use a tape measure.
  • Understand and comply with all manufacturing safety procedures including personal protective equipment (required)
  • Able to work in a physically demanding environment including temperature extremes, loud noise, avoiding slipping, tripping, and falling hazards.
  • Physically capable of manual labor that includes bending, walking, sitting, and climbing in and around machinery and equipment for an entire 8-hour shift.
  • Able to lift, up to 40 lbs. frequently, between 40 and 50 lbs. occasionally, over 50 lbs. minimally. When lifting 50 lbs. and above, team lifting, and overhead crane assistance will be used.
  • Work environment includes exposure to compressed air, steam, lubrication oil, dust, and hydraulic fluid.
  • Able to work an 8-hour rotating shift including nights, weekends, and Holidays. Able to work overtime as needed.
