Job Description

The mission of the Office of Equity & Title IX (ETIX) is to promote, advance, and sustain an environment of equity and inclusiveness by ensuring equal access to educational and employment opportunities for all in the University of Missouri-Kansas City community.

In support of this mission, and with respect to the values of the University, the Employee ADA Coordinator and Accessibility Specialist operates as part of the ETIX team and works in collaboration with a multitude of campus and community partners to provide reasonable accommodations to employees with disabilities, employees who are pregnant or have pregnancy-related conditions, and employees who request accommodations related to religious observances. The Employee ADA Coordinator and Accessibility Specialists also responds to reported concerns regarding lack of access to campus buildings, public spaces, or digital programs and activities at UMKC. Lastly, this role supports the ETIX investigative team by providing outreach and coordination of supportive measures when needed in response to reports of discrimination and harassment.

Responsibilities Include:

Accommodations:

  • Receives and responds to ADA, pregnancy, and religious based accommodation requests
  • Coordinates the interactive accommodation process for requests between employee and supervisor
  • Collects and securely maintains any necessary medical documentation, position descriptions, job duties related to an accommodation request
  • Receives and responds to reports of barriers to physical and digital access to UMKC employment, education programs, and activities
  • Ensures compliance with federal and state laws and regulations regarding accommodations and accessibility, working with campus partners across UMKC and the UM System
  • Maintains up to date information on UMKC campus lactation spaces

Training, Education, and Outreach:

  • Works in conjunction with campus and community partners to offer training and educational programming on employment law and UM System policies pertaining to reasonable accommodations and accessibility
  • Assists in developing and disseminating educational materials related to accommodations and accessibility
  • Provides program assessment and outcome data
  • Serves on the UM System ADA Coordinators and All Campus Disability Committees, attending meetings and assisting with projects as necessary
  • Develops and maintains relationships with other campus and community partners
  • Represents ETIX on other University and community committees as appropriate

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assists the ETIX team when necessary, by conducting outreach to reported complainants of discrimination/harassment
  • Stays abreast of changes and trends in rules, regulations, and case law concerning accommodations and accessibility in the workplace
  • Ensures compliance with record keeping and confidentiality of protected information
  • Maintains positive and professional interactions with all constituencies, treating everyone with dignity and respect
  • Completes other duties as assigned
  • Evening, weekend hours, and travel may be required on occasion
Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Requirements are:

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands
  • Ability to maintain confidential information, exercise sound and objective judgment, and work independently
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret federal and state equal opportunity and non-discrimination laws, regulations, and guidance applicable to institutions of higher education, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended, the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, the PUMP Act, and other related laws and policies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Juris doctorate or master's degree in a related field (e.g., vocational rehabilitation, special education, social work, human resource management, higher education administration, etc.)
  • Experience in higher education, student conduct, program planning, and/or working with legal services organizations.
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to meet the needs of a diverse population with a focus on equity and inclusiveness
  • Solid writing, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Maxient case management software, and internet applications (social media, report tracking, etc.)
Anticipated Hiring Range

Starts at $51,785. Offer will be commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
