JOB SUMMARY, DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS:
Job Summary
The Instructional Designer will enhance the quality of education by supporting faculty in designing quality curricula and courses, supporting Open Educational Resources (OER initiatives, and providing ongoing professional development related to instructional design. This position focuses on guiding faculty through the curriculum development process, ensuring alignment with best practices, effectively integrating educational technologies, and fostering innovative teaching strategies. Note: This position requires on-campus presence in Wausau, WI, and is not fully remote.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully with or without reasonable accommodation.
Guide Quality Course Design: Work with program faculty and subject matter experts to design and develop high-quality curriculum for online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses, integrating technology effectively and ensuring alignment with educational standards.
Analyze and Assess Courses: Use a rubric of quality standards to assess courses, providing feedback to improve course quality.
Support LMS Use: Assist faculty in utilizing the Learning Management System (LMS) effectively for course design.
Pedagogy/Andragogy Support: Provide guidance and support to faculty in applying effective teaching strategies in course design.
Strategic Onboarding and Program Mapping: Take a strategic approach in supporting the launch of new programs, including program mapping to align courses and outcomes effectively.
Program Curriculum Management: Oversee and manage program curricula to ensure they meet institutional and accreditation standards.
OER Initiatives: Support initiatives to integrate affordable educational resources (OER) into curriculum development.
Problem Solving: Recognize and resolve process issues during curriculum development to meet delivery timelines.
Minimum Qualifications Required

Education:Bachelor's Degree
Bachelor's Degree in Education or Related Field
Preferred:
Master's Degree
Coursework in curriculum and instructional design, instructional technologies, and interactive software
Experience:3 Years
Additional Experience Information:
At least 3 years of teaching experience and an interest in instructional design.
Technical Skills: Experience with a Learning Management System (Canvas, Blackboard, D2L, etc.)
Knowledge and Skills: Understanding of instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM), adult learning theories, and best practices in online education. Ability to multi-task, prioritize assignments, and manage projects under deadlines
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals at all organizational levels, including students, faculty, staff, and the community
Preferred Experience:
Using WIDS (Worldwide Instructional Design System) for performance-based learning
Working in an institution of higher education
Using multimedia design tools is preferred (Vyond, Articulate, Adobe Captivate, etc.)
Knowledge and experience using quality management principles and facilitating teams
