Job Description

The Shop Manager is responsible for directing, supervising, and training technicians who are performing the repair, maintenance, and manufacture of Top Drives, Make/Break Machines, Mud Pumps, Power Ends, and other various drilling and pressure pumping equipment.

This position is required to collaborate effectively with various team members to execute the completion of jobs in accordance with Warrior, API, and ISO standards. They will set ambitious standards of performance for themselves and others; be professional in written, verbal, and personal actions; seek new knowledge and experiences and have an ability to successfully direct multiple direct reports across multiple product lines while balancing the administrative duties of the job.

This role will report to the Operations Manager.

Detailed Description:

  • Responsible for leading a team of 10-15 shop technicians of various levels and skill sets.
  • Managing the assembly, installation, training, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs using as needed appropriate drawings, schematic(s) or resources on:
    • OEM & Non-OEM Traveling equipment & Sub-assemblies.
      • Top Drives hydraulic and electric
      • Blocks
    • OEM & Non-OEM Iron Roughneck systems & Sub-assemblies.
    • OEM & Non-OEM Automated catwalk systems & Sub-assemblies.
    • OEM & Non-OEM Power End's - Mud, Frac & Cement pumps.
  • Adhere, enforce, and uphold operations, quality management system and safety policies.
  • Participate in the hiring process of all shop personnel to include interviewing, feedback, and offer letters.
  • Address and resolve employee issues and conflicts, ensuring a positive and productive work environment.
  • Understand and facilitate the Warrior Path program and OJT to all shop technicians.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations for all shop personnel.
  • Develop technical training materials for designated repair operations.
  • Build constructive teams and coordinate workforce to deliver quality products that meet or exceed delivery and quality expectations.
  • Read, interpret, and follow engineering drawings, specifications, bill of materials and other written work instructions or procedures to accurately supervise the assembly of all products.
  • Work closely with Quality and Engineering on the creation of data packets and redline drawings.
  • Coordinate operations and quality work checks are completed to ensure product meets Warrior's standards.
  • Identify product defects and complete work steps and quality documentation to ensure all non-conformances are addressed appropriately.
  • Supervise the rework and/or repair of assembled equipment and products according to engineering and OEM specifications.
  • Maintain work order creation; BOM's; routers, parts list, or work instructions for new or reworked equipment products / models for customer and OEM specific requirements.
  • Provide work order analysis to identify trends and opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Develop operational procedures for new equipment. Recommend changes in manufacturing and/or design processes or additional quality control measures.
  • Develop and track KPI's for his/her team.
  • Maintain, order, and track all shop supplies, equipment repairs and tooling needs.
  • Complete monthly building inspections, maintenance or repairs as needed to ensure operations and safety needs are accomplished.
  • Partner / Ensure effective material flow between warehouse, production to ensure the timely delivery of all items needed for each job.
  • Use product knowledge and understand market trends to help forecast parts purchasing and outplant repair activities.

  • Physical ability to:
    • Lift and carry 50 pounds independently while walking on uneven surfaces.
    • Bend, stoop, kneel, twist, and crawl occasionally during visits to the field and operational work areas.
    • Listen for unusual noises that signify equipment and or machinery problems.
    • Stay alert and focused including during occasional extended work periods.
    • Maintain spatial orientation and awareness to safely move around the work environment with many moving objects including overhead machinery.
    • Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all designated times.
  • Ability to travel (less than 10%) as needed to visit worksites and support business units; may require extended travel to remote locations and/or overnight stay(s) outside normal office area.
  • Ability to work on weekends and be on call after hours or travel as needed with limited notice as needed.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems (purchasing/inventory management software)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma and/or General Education Degree (GED)
  • State-issued driver's license and be eligible to drive a Company vehicle, including ability to meet requirements of Company's Vehicle Use Agreement and Driving Policy.
  • 10 + years of experience Shop or Industrial Equipment maintenance experience or equivalent credits.
    • Or 7 + years of experience in the maintenance, repair, remanufacture and or operations of oilfield equipment.
  • 4+ years of experience in a Supervisory role

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in a Supervisory role
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Proficiency with mechanical/hydraulic/electrical assembly in the oilfield services/drilling industry.
  • Technical certification in automotive, lift truck, heavy equipment and/or diesel engine repair.
  • Understanding of oilfield terminology and parts, specifically related to:
    • Oil and Gas equipment assembly, teardown, installation, rig up /down experience and troubleshooting of Top Drives, Traveling Blocks, Mud Pumps, Iron Roughnecks, Automated Catwalks, Power End.
  • Work experience with API Quality certification(s)
  • In depth knowledge of Warrior product line(s) top drives, traveling blocks, make/break machines, mud pumps, and power ends.

Additional Details:

This position requires the person to work in both an office and remanufacture warehouse facility environment. The position must work with an emphasis on safety for themselves and others including coworkers and third parties. Also, must be able to work closely with others and under deadlines including time-sensitive response situations and be willing to work extended schedules that will include working days, and occasionally nights, weekends, and holidays.
