SUMMARY

Provides exceptional customer support for both internal and external clients to assist in risk mitigation and process levies/garnishments with an understanding in subpoenas for all branches in FIB's footprint. Expected to be up to date and knowledgeable in all the state laws and regulations for levies/garnishments and actively and independently seeks continued education as trends change. Responsible for managing multiple tasks at any given time and prioritize based on risk to the Bank and our clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external clients while maintaining focus on risk mitigation. This includes but not limited to:
    • Answering banking inquiries from branch personnel and directing them to the correct department or individual.
    • Taking responsibility for monitoring and responding to questions sent in the financial crimes email box regarding legal documents.
  • Solid understanding of our digital banking platform, and the unique risks associated with those services.
  • Processes all levies/garnishments in an accurate & timely manner according to regulations, state and federal laws, rules & procedures. This includes but not limited to:
    • Research and analyzes whether it is appropriate to process garnishment/writ/levy and determine which accounts can be garnished.
    • Charges customer accounts the proper processing fee.
    • Debits customer accounts to pay garnishment/levy when required.
    • Applies appropriate state and federal law exemptions.
    • Drafts appropriate responses and sends required correspondence to requesting parties and clients.
    • Communicates with all parties involved (internal and external) regarding inquiries concerning these document types.
  • Communicates with legal counsel and law enforcement agencies (IRS, FBI, Local Law Enforcement, DEA, etc.) when necessary, to process legal documents appropriately and timely.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of laws & regulations for all legal document processing.
  • Quickly assesses a client's banking information utilizing the Verafin software and other resources.
  • Remains calm and controlled while handling stressful conversations with clients and bank employees and understands when to escalate to management.
  • Fields multiple demands throughout the day and prioritizes duties based on risk and urgency.
  • Demonstrates compliance with all bank regulations for assigned job functions and applies to designated job responsibilities.
  • Assists in occasional administrative support (opening and distributing mail).
  • Assists in special projects and tasks for the department as directed.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six month to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

OTHER SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to appropriately escalate issues requiring problem solving and decision making. Understanding legal terminology preferred. Knowledge of bank records and account opening documents required. Ability to deal discreetly with confidential information required. Ability to work under pressure, independently, multi-task and handle multiple tasks under tight time constraints.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions,

proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and sit. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
