Position Overview
The Nursing Director is responsible for the leadership and
management of the Emergency Department and MedStar at Medstar Washington
Hospital Center. This role offers the chance to create a practice environment

care delivery system that prioritizes the patient's well-being. As a nursing
leader, you will promote an environment that aligns with the Division of

In a medical emergency, you
want the hospital and the healthcare team with the most experience - and a
reputation for excellence. Our 47-bed, level I emergency department provides
24-hour-a-day care for patients with all types of acute illness or injury.
Board-certified emergency medicine specialists - and access to dozens of other
renowned medical specialists - help ensure that patients get the right
treatment and the best outcome. The ED nursing team prides themselves on
working safely and efficiently in a high stress, multifaceted environment.
The internationally
renowned MedStar trauma (Medical Shock/Trauma Acute Resuscitation) at MedStar
Washington Hospital Center is the regional referral center for critical
multiple trauma, treating individual victims of traumatic injury and the
multiple victims of mass trauma occurrences.
In the heart of
the nation's capital, the center's well-earned reputation for excellence has
been repeatedly tested. It has responded to thousands of medical crises,
including treating patients of the September 11th terrorist attack on the
Pentagon, and victims of the Navy Yard shootings.

maintaining a patient-centered approach. As well as our patients, we benefit
from a multi-disciplinary, collaborative team approach, including Nurses, Residents/Fellows,
Advanced Practice Providers, Respiratory Therapy and Case Management.
Key Responsibilities
Assume 24-hour administrative and leadership authority and
responsibility for the management and direction of emergency services at MWHC.
Oversee the operational, personnel, and financial
activities of the unit to ensure efficient and effective resource utilization.
Direct and coordinate the activities of professional and
support personnel within the unit.
Collaborate with the nursing leadership team, Medical
Staff, and leaders of other departments/disciplines to ensure seamless patient
care.
Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations,
and MedStar Health's mission, vision, and values.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Nursing (Master's preferred)
DC RN License
Minimum of five years of nursing experience
Two years of nursing leadership experience preferred
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
