About the Job

Program/Unit Description:
The University of Minnesota is well known as one of the founding schools for the MIS discipline and is home to the Management Information Systems Research Center (MISRC) and the MIS Quarterly. The department of Information and Decision Sciences is seeking applicants for one annually renewable Outreach Director. This is a 25% appointment.


Duties and Responsibilities:
This position will be the primary contact with the department chair, departmental faculty, and the leadership of the departmental centers (for example, MISRC and CAL/AGI) to develop and implement industry outreach and engagement strategies as well as to organize (and participate in) the outreach-related activities. Responsibilities include:

  • Organizing/coordinating/co-chairing departmental industry-oriented events (conferences, seminar series, etc.) with responsibilities for setting the agenda, securing industry sponsorship, signing up speakers, coordinating event logistics.
  • Facilitating industry-facing departmental communications (for example, coordinating newsletters from the department, MISRC, or CAL/AGI)
  • Developing industry-academic collaborations and partnerships (for example, in research, consulting, guest teaching, grants/scholarships, industry workshops, etc.)
  • Developing and disseminating industry-relevant knowledge products and services in the areas of digital transformation, information systems, and business analytics, such as assessments, benchmarking, white papers, and playbooks
  • Helping departmental centers be financially sustainable via development of long-term, value-adding, paid industry partnerships
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
BA/BS and at least 12 years of experience


Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management Information and Decision Sciences Department.
