The Sr. Manager Payroll manages and coordinates the overall operation of the Payroll department, which includes multiple payroll related systems, timecard processing, compiling payroll statistics, maintaining payroll records, and processing payout submissions. Oversees all payroll tax activity such as establishing accounts with new State and Local agencies and working with UKG Pro Tax Service to ensure proper filings and returns. Assists with various audits (e.g., financial, internal control, worker’s compensation, etc.). Engages in and/or leads various payroll related projects as appropriate (e.g., UKG Pro upgrades, payroll consolidation). The Sr. Manager of Payroll has general accounting responsibilities, including posting weekly and biweekly payroll activity into the general ledger, and other payroll related journal entries that may arise during the month-end close, including reconciliations. The Sr. Manager Payroll is also responsible for developing and implementing payroll strategies, policies, and procedures, and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. In addition, the Sr. Manager Payroll is responsible for the administration of the Shareworks equity platform for stock grants and the employee stock purchase plan.
Responsibilities:
  • Manages the overall operation of the Payroll department by maintaining efficient staffing and overseeing the weekly and biweekly payroll processing.
  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Responsible for the administration of the Shareworks equity platform for stock grants and the employee stock purchase plan. This includes but not limited to the processing of stock grants and vestings along with processing the ESPP purchase and tax filings.
  • Facilitates audits by providing records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Posts and reviews payroll related journal entries to general ledger in JDE. Completes monthly close process including account reconciliations.
  • Participates in on-going process improvement initiatives and represents the Payroll department in any active projects.
  • Provides direction and leadership to the staff, setting goals, providing ongoing constructive feedback, completing performance reviews and managing schedules.
  • Develops and implements payroll strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Reviews payroll batches for accuracy. Responds to inquiries/problems/concerns once payroll is distributed.
Requirements:
  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
  • Organized and detail oriented with item-by-item focus, meticulous attention to detail with ability to proofread for accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience with multi state payroll processing for a large organization including various taxing authorities.
  • Discreet with ability to professionally handle highly confidential and personal information.
  • Experience in developing and implementing payroll strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to establish and maintain relationships with critical departments such as Human Resources.
  • Detail-oriented with item-by-item focus, meticulous attention to detail with ability to proofread for accuracy.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Previous experience in a senior level payroll position.
  • Proven experience with multi state payroll processing for a large organization including various taxing authorities.
  • Experience in equity administration is a plus.
  • Knowledge of UKG (formerly UltiPro) and Shareworks preferred.
