Vedder Price's Chicago office is looking for an Audit and Tax Accounting Manager.

The Audit and Tax Accounting Manager is responsible for support and oversight of the Firm's global Audit and Tax functions, while leading and assisting with other general accounting functions. The Audit and Tax Accounting Manager will work directly with the external auditors and tax agencies while overseeing the planning, management and timely completion of Audit and Tax related deliverables. These include, but are not limited to local and international tax compliance, preparation of federal and state tax filings, effectively managing multiple audit engagements, mentoring and managing the senior and staff accountants and other responsibilities as outlined below. This position requires a motivated and collaborative individual to help the Management team evaluate, recommend and implement best practices in the day-to-day processes.

This position reports to the Assistant Controller, but will regularly interact with the Controller, FP&A team and CFO.

As the Audit and Tax Accounting Manager, your duties will include but not be limited to:
  • Lead the planning, management and execution of the financial statement, pension plan, and employee benefit audits for domestic and international entities, which includes effectively managing multiple engagements simultaneously.
  • Serve as liaison and coordinate with various departments across the firm to gather audit support, communicate with external audit firms, and provide deliverables by expected deadlines.
  • Provide direct assistance to tax advisors in the preparation of federal and state tax filings.
  • Oversee timely and accurate compliance with income and other tax filing requirements for domestic and international entities.
  • Provide tax research, analysis, and interpretation for purposes of compliance with domestic and international laws and regulations.
  • Lead the accounting team on month end close responsibilities, which include, among other tasks, recording journal entries and completing account reconciliations.
  • Perform year end close responsibilities, which include, among other tasks, running FX revaluations and recording post audit adjusting journal entries.
  • Lead the preparation and review of domestic and international financial statements.
  • Manage, supervise and mentor senior and staff accountants, including mentoring in professional development areas, guiding and teaching through technical challenges, and maintaining a positive team atmosphere.
  • Document task and procedures essential to the role.
  • Evaluate, recommend and implement improvements to related processes.
  • Invest in your professional development individually and through participation in firm wide learning and development programs.
Skills & Competencies:
  • Knowledge of accounting theory/practices for professional service firms
  • Experience with tax compliance and external audits (domestic and international preferred)
  • Ability to work with multiple accounting and financial systems
  • Ability to meet deadlines and use time efficiently
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and exercise good judgment
Qualifications & Required Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting required
  • MBA or other advanced degree in finance or accounting a plus
  • CPA highly encouraged
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience within an accounting and finance function required (law/professional services firm experience preferred)
  • Position also requires the ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines

    Computer Skills:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in the following software:

    • Experience with Elite or 3E Accounting System and business analytic tools strongly preferred (data warehouse experience a plus)
    • Excellent Microsoft Excel and Word skills required
