Overview:

We are hiring an experienced UI Development Task Lead to join our newly formed Design Systems team, which is pivotal in establishing and maintaining a cohesive UI design language and system across ORNL applications and platforms! This position resides in the UX group in the Application Development division of the Information Technology Services Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Lead UI development efforts within the design systems team, ensuring adherence to best practices, coding standards, and design system guidelines.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, resulting in seamless implementation.
  • Guide design system usage and implementation within the organization, ensuring adherence to established standards and practices.
  • Collaborate alongside with sponsors, designers, and fellow developers to ensure decisions align with business goals, technical constraints, and user needs.
  • Drive adoption and consistency across products and platforms through design system evangelization, encouraging a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
  • Deliver ORNL's mission by aligning behaviors, priorities, and interactions with our core values of Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service. Basic Qualifications:

  • A BS in computer science, computer engineering, human factors, science, business, or a related field of study and five (5) to seven (7) years of aligned experience is required for consideration. An overall combination of equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Strong proficiency in UI development, with expertise in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern UI frameworks such as React or Vue.js.
  • Experience with software development best practices, including Agile development methodologies, version control using Git or similar systems, and project management using tools like JIRA.
  • Proven experience in working with design systems, component libraries, and pattern libraries.
  • Strong proficiency in creating and maintaining technical documentation.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a focus on fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within development teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Figma.
  • Proven leadership abilities, with a track record of successfully leading enterprise initiatives and driving adoption across an organization.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to evolving project requirements and technologies.
  • Cross-discipline proficiency and understanding of modern digital experiences.
  • Experience working and collaborating in a dynamic, rapid-growth environment.
