Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is looking for an Entry-Level Environmental Scientist to join our Rochester, NY team! In this position, the Environmental Scientist will conduct site assessments, investigations, surveys and prepare environmental documentation.

Colliers Engineering & Designs environmental monitoring and remediation experts investigate, characterize and design remedial measures for environmental concerns that create risks for human health and the environment. Our solutions are designed to meet the regulatory clean-up standards appropriate for new construction and site redevelopment.

Come learn practical application of engineering, scientific and regulatory principles through studying and participating in the collection, processing, and evaluation of environmental data. This individual would also assist in the initial preparation of technical reports and applications, and other project documents.


Responsibilities

  • Report preparation and an aptitude for technical writing.
  • Collect, analyze, and prepare raw data into workable form for engineering/scientific project reports, plans specifications, permits, cost estimates, and other project documents.
  • Review documentation (drawings, blueprints, proposals etc.) to perform required tasks in the field.
  • Effectively lay out sampling locations in the field.
  • Clean, maintain and calibrate field monitoring equipment.
  • Conduct site reconnaissance and governmental file reviews.
  • Prepare for field work/sampling (bottle orders with labs, mark outs with drillers, equipment rental).
  • Perform field work, prepare field notes (field books, soil boring logs), collect samples (soil, water, gas), collect photo documentation.
  • Participate in field work as necessary/required in order to accomplish tasks assigned by project team leadership.
  • Complete assignments in the specific time periods requested while ensuring accuracy, completeness, quality, and thoroughness of results. Meet company standards for productivity and profitability.
  • Download/upload photo documentation and field notes/field reports for supervisory review.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety program and all applicable Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Routine travel to and from job site, overnight stays may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or related field preferred.
  • 0-2 years of experience related to environmental projects.
  • Basic knowledge of environmental concepts, theories, principles and practices.
  • Demonstrate basic investigative, analytical and research skills.
  • Basic software proficiency for ESRI ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro.
  • Demonstrate general computer skills, knowledge and acumen through Microsoft Office products.
  • OSHA 40-Hour Hazwoper preferred.
  • May be required to become certified asbestos inspector, asbestos project monitor, mold assessor, or lead assessor in various states and perform tasks as part of these certifications.
  • May be required to become Rail certified to perform environmental field tasks for federal rail work projects.
  • Possess and demonstrate the ability, skills and initiative to exchange information effectively and efficiently.

Compensation: $52,500-$64,400 DOQ.
