Overview
The Department of Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education at Utah State University invites applications for an Academic Advisor position. The primary responsibilities are academic advising for COMDDE campus 1st bachelor's degree and pre-major students. The position is 0.8 FTE for 10 months per year.


Responsibilities
  • Provides advising services in person, by phone, or by email to 1st bachelor, certificate, and pre-major campus students.
  • Works as part of a departmental advising team to meet current, prospective, and former student and program needs.
  • Provides information on curriculum, graduation requirements, and university policies/procedures.
  • Creates semester-by-semester graduation plan and monitors student progress toward graduation.
  • Provides information and strategies to utilize available campus resources and services.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Assists students in making responsible and informed decisions impacting academic progress.
  • Encourages and guides students as they define and develop realistic goals.
  • Assists students to understand the purpose of higher education and the impact on life goals.
  • Encourages students to engage in learning communities and support systems of peers, professors, and mentors.
  • Makes appropriate referrals to other University and non-university resources.
  • Maintains records and documentation of advising interactions.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Academic advising experience at Utah State University
  • Advising or other relevant experience in communication sciences and disorders
  • Familiarity with USUs general and depth education requirements, campus resources for student success, and graduation requirements
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), web browsers, and familiarity with USUs Banner, DegreeWorks, Argos, Appointment Manager, Civitas and CRMs
