Senior Fuel Performance Engineer

If this sounds like an environment you would thrive in, Nuclear Fuel Engineering is looking for an experiencedFuel Performance Engineerto join the BWR Fuel Performance team. This position is available as fully remote roll with occasional travel for meetings and conferences.

Your Day-to-Day:

  • Perform standard and non-standard reload analysis work for US and international customers, following and understanding approved methodologies, procedures, and internal processes while maintaining focus on nuclear safety and quality to produce error free work. Analyses will support safe plant operation by establishing thermal mechanical operating limit with licensed fuel rod design codes and methods and providing design input (initial condition and model parameters) to downstream safety analyses. Work is generally performed using Westinghouse-specific fuel performance codes such as STAV, the Westinghouse version of TRANSURANUS and ENIGMA.
  • Perform engineering design and analysis and propose solutions to complex problems that are not well defined.
  • Coordinate and integrate complex technical projects that encompass multi-functional areas; successfully achieve established budget and schedule requirements.
  • Interface with customers and multi-functional project teams. May act as expert knowledge resource of specific engineering discipline.
  • Develop and deliver presentations to communicate status, problem resolution or promote related business products.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Support development of new methods and processes for implementing technical requirements. Coordinate and/or prepare technical documents for associated licensing approvals and provide expertise and consultation to technical panels, reviews, committees, regulators, customers, and partners on various Fuel Performance related topics.
  • Support and provide technical leadership for special projects and major programs such fuel transition projects, advanced plant designs, plant chemistry programs, and resolution of unique customer needs and emergent issues.

Who You Are:
As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (e.g., Nuclear, Mechanical, etc.) or related Discipline (e.g., Materials, etc.) preferred or recognized equivalent required.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience preferred; 4 plus years preferred.
  • Strong skills in computer programing (particularly Python) are required.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; Comfortable leading meetings and developing and delivering presentations.
  • Self-motivated with an ability to learn quickly and display a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, experience working effectively in a team environment.
  • Experience interfacing with customers.
