Summary:

The Director of Transportation Operations is responsible for directing the transportation and distribution operations of assigned facilities, developing and cultivating customer relationships and implementing logistical strategies that result in a growth in revenue, while maintaining a safe and profitable operation.

Job Duties: -

* Coordinates transportation and distribution in accordance with company policies, principles and procedures

* Confers and collaborates with customers and representatives of associated industries to evaluate and promote improved and expanded services in the area

* Ensures high level of customer satisfaction by communicating frequently with assigned customer and following up on customer concerns and requests

* Ensures adequate staffing and assumes responsibility for training, coaching and counseling employees in assigned account(s)

* Ensures assigned account(s) have the resources necessary to meet company goals and objectives

* Develops plans for efficient use of resources

* Reviews costs and makes changes/recommendations to maintain and enhance profitable operation of division

* Reviews and revises transportation schedules to ensure increased efficiency and to lower costs while improving our customers position in the marketplace

* Ensures timely deliveries to maximize sales

* Plans, directs, and implements transportation scheduling, allocation, dispatching, licensing and communication functions

* Ensures that goods are dispatched on time to the appropriate destinations and in the expected quantities

* Evaluates freight services, negotiates contracts, and manages relationships with chosen vendors as needed

* Analyzes proposed schedules and rates, initiates preparation and distribution of proposed trip schedule changes, and submits analysis of data and rescheduling recommendations to administration

* Interacts with the Transportation business, sales, warehouse management, and information technology teams

* Accepts responsibiliyt for the profitability of the assigned account(s) through accurate and timely preparation of financial budgets and forecasts

* Other duties as required and assigned

Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree from a 4 year college or university

* Master's degree in Business Administration preferred

* Minimum 7 to 10 years Transportation and Distribution management experience

* Experience in Food/Grocery and/or Confectionary Industry preferred

* Experience with consolidation programs preferred

* Knowledge of Transportation Management Systems: OTM or other tier 1 system and Warehouse Management Systems: PKMS or other tier 1 system

* PC literate to include Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel and Outlook

* Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals

* Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and co-workers

* Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

* Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee is regularly exposed to ambient lighting and temperate climate conditions.
