Job Summary:

The Center for Neighborhood Engaged Research & Science (CORNERS) at Northwestern University is seeking a Data Analyst (entry-level) to join our growing team. CORNERS conducts rigorous and cutting-edge research into the ways that Neighborhood Science can be used to understand and address gun violence and other pressing social issues. Working closely with our community and civic partners through an engaged research process, we collect and analyze a wide range of data on the complex networks of residents, institutions, and organizations. Utilizes multiple quantitative and qualitative datasets from a variety of sources and interprets results using various techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation via statistical analysis to complex data mining. Assists in the design, development and implementation of business solutions partnering with clients to identify analytical requirements. Compiles reports, charts, and tables based on established statistical methods.

The Data Analyst will be a full-time employee of Northwestern University with full benefits. They will work alongside other CORNERS' team members in our shared office space on the Evanston campus of Northwestern University.

Specific Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning

  • Partners with clients to define requirements based on business objectives.

Administration

  • Develop standardized templates, policies, and procedures for internal and external reporting.
  • Designs and prepares documentation for qualitative and quantitative data analysis

Development

  • Completes a variety of statistical analyses using appropriate data and software
  • Merges data from multiple sources in preparation for analysis.
  • Interprets results of analyses for use in reports and presentations

Performance

  • Completes data cleaning and organizes data files for analysis.
  • Reviews data and Identifies quality issues

Miscellaneous

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong quantitative skills (coursework in econometrics and/or statistics) and familiarity of social scientific theories.
  • Working knowledge of R or Python (please specify level of knowledge in application).
  • Coursework on quasi-experimental methods for observational data.
  • Coursework on spatial statistics, network analysis, and/or computational social science.
  • Major in Sociology, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field.

Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)

  • Experience with broader range of statistical techniques, e.g., structural equation modeling, latent class analysis, etc.

Target hiring range for this position will be between $57,000-$68,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data
