Associate Athletic Director - Cranbrook Middle School

As a member of the Middle School Administrative Team, the Associate Athletic Director for Middle School Athletics has the primary responsibility for implementing, managing, supervising, and evaluating the Middle School athletic program. In addition, this role promotes a safe and quality athletic program through close working relationships with Middle School administration, Upper School Athletics, parents, students, faculty, coaches, and the community. This role informs the Middle School Heads of emerging athletic and safety issues that may impact the program.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Organize, supervise, and work collaboratively with Middle School Athletic and Intramural Activity Coordinators for interscholastic athletics and intramural management.
  • Member of the Middle School administrative leadership team.
  • Hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate middle school athletics and intramural coaching staff.
  • Work with the Cranbrook HR Department to post vacant middle school coaching positions and ensure that coaches do not start working until after the hiring process has been completed.
  • Communicate and manage middle school athletic program announcements, protocols and procedures, program updates, sign-ups, schedules, rosters, scores, and highlights on CranNet.
  • Manage athletics and intramural facilities and venues, scheduling, and supervision.
  • Coordinate all practices, games transportation, team photos, and coaches' meetings.
  • Issue game contracts to opponent schools.
  • Contract with schedulers for game officials and complete forms to pay officials.
  • Ensure the safety and upkeep of the athletic facilities and venues.
  • Responsible for all duties associated with games management. Work with MS Athletic Coordinators to ensure an administrative presence before, during, and after at-home contests to support participating teams, coaches, officials, and spectators. Enforce MHSAA, League, and Cranbrook Schools expectations of sportsmanship.
  • Work collaboratively with the Upper School Athletics Administration.
  • Work collaboratively with Cranbrook Schools Booster Club. Attend monthly evening meetings, help with Booster fund-raisers (Lax Jam, etc.), and inform them of athletic equipment needs and requests.
  • Prepare, update, and post Middle School Athletics Coaches and Student Handbook.
  • Oversees Middle School Athletic budget, including inventory management of athletic and intramural program needs for equipment and supplies.
  • Support and actively participate in formal and informal professional development opportunities.
  • Stay abreast of current trends in athletics and actively share this information with the Middle School coaches. Serves as a role model in pursuing ongoing professional growth and through his/her example, encourages Middle School coaches to do the same.
  • Serves as a representative for Cranbrook and the Middle School to prospective parents, students, faculty, coaches, and the community.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises all Middle School coaches, Athletic Coordinators, and Intramural Activity Coordinators.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree is required.
  • At least five years high-demand administrative support required, work in compliance strongly preferred.
  • Proven success in independently managing many projects simultaneously with impeccable organization and follow-through.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required. Will be regularly communicating with students, parents, alumni, staff, faculty and administrators. It is necessary to understand, speak, and write in English.
  • Positive problem-solving ability is required to perform the functions of this position.
  • High-level organizational skills including multi-tasking and time management.
  • Must have weekend and early evening availability during fall/winter/spring seasons.
  • Must be able to travel regionally to contests and meetings.
  • Position requires significant standing/walking for long periods, indoors and outdoors in all weather, and/or lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Proficient computer skills; experience with Microsoft Office suite required and Arbiter and Big Teams software a plus.
  • Valid Driver's License with satisfactory driving record required.
