Overview

Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Conflicts Analyst I- Contract. This position could be based in any of our U.S. offices (Austin; Chicago; Boston; Houston; Los Angeles; New York; Menlo Park; Orange County; Portland; Sacramento; San Francisco; Santa Monica; Seattle; Washington DC; or Wheeling, WV) with consideration given for 100% remote US locations.

The Objective: The Conflicts Analyst I- Contract assists the Firm and its attorneys with compliance and risk management related to potential new business.

What will I do? You will review, research and analyze new business and conflict submissions to identify potential ethical or business conflicts of interest and to ensure compliance with Firm policies and strategies. You will provide clear communication to firm attorneys and staff to resolve potential conflict and compliance issues. You will research corporate entities and family tree structures to determine related entities and run additional reports utilizing international business compliance software as needed.

Our ideal candidate will have excellent analytical and communication skills and the ability to manage a dynamic and often fast-paced set of matters and issues.

Responsibilities

How will I spend my time? You will spend most of your time on these responsibilities:

    Work closely with attorneys and other members of the New Business & Conflicts team to identify potential ethical and business conflicts of interest presented by new business.
  • Perform comprehensive research, analysis, and documentation of potential conflicts of interest associated with new business intake.
  • Prepare well-organized and detailed conflict of interest reports and present information directly to Firm partners in a clear, concise manner while highlighting critical issues.
  • Review and evaluate new business intake forms for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with applicable laws, firm policies, and business requirements.
  • Review draft engagement letters and assist with maintaining engagement letter records.
  • Ensure timely and efficient processing of new business requests.
  • Work closely with the Firm's Office of the General Counsel, department leadership, and other Intake Compliance team members regarding potential conflicts of interest and other risk and compliance matters.
  • Employ and enforce risk management processes and procedures.
  • Coordinate with department management, Office of the General Counsel, and Risk Management team regarding firm-wide training on new business intake and conflicts processes and procedures.
  • Contribute to new business conflicts and intake process, procedure, and technology improvements to enhance efficiency and manage risk.
  • Implement departmental projects and initiatives as assigned.
  • Identify and support all customer service needs.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or comparable experience required.
  • 3-5 years of conflicts analyst experience, preferably at a large law firm.
  • Working knowledge of Intapp products preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and organizational skills.
  • A problem-solver with a strong attention to detail and sound judgment.
  • Team-oriented with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with all levels of firm attorneys and staff.
  • Ability to manage change within a dynamic and innovative organization while maintaining a commitment to the Firm's core values.
  • Strong interest and ability to learn new technologies as necessary.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a temporary contract position. The expected hourly range for this position is:

  • California Major Markets* $27 - $50 per hour
  • New York City $29 - $50 per hour
  • National $22 - $35 per hour

* California Major Markets includes San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Monica. All other California locations fall within National range.

This is a short-term, temporary position. Our temporary team members are eligible for paid sick leave where required by location.
