The IFF Pharma Solutions business produces and sells high-performance cellulose derivatives, alginates and related polymers used for formulations across a broad variety of applications in the Pharmaceuticals, Food, and Industrial Specialties and Personal Care markets. Within IFF's Pharma Solutions business Technology and Process expertise is a strategic area of focus and can deliver a competitive advantage.

As a Process Research Engineer, youwill work across the functions (R&D and Process R&D, Innovation, Regulatory, Manufacturing and Technology, Marketing) to support and execute Pharma Solutions innovation, technology development and asset strategy. In this role, you will be reporting into Process R&D, and as a technology engineer you will apply engineering principles to new and existing solid handling and modification technologies with tasks ranging from process design to the evaluation and implementation of new drying, milling and granulation technologies.


Responsibilities:

  • The Process Research Engineer will be the solids processing expert for new and current products and processes in the area of chemically modified cellulose and polysaccharides by:
  • Becoming an expert role in solids handling, granulation, drying and milling technologies in order to make your knowledge and expertise available to various stakeholders within the organization.
  • Providing conceptual and detailed technology and equipment designs for granulation, milling, drying and new particle formation technologies including solids blending and mixing, screening, and classification.
  • Investigating, troubleshooting, and optimizing granulation, milling, and drying equipment to incorporate technology advances that decrease cost, increase capacity, and reduce energy use.
  • Guiding experimental programs to ensure the results are useful for process optimization and equipment design.
  • Developing solid mixing techniques, drying, and milling process simulation models and tools to evaluate process improvement opportunities and to optimize existing production technologies.
  • Becoming responsible for the set up and execution of experimental activities mainly in the field of solids handling, granulation, drying and milling.
  • Scaling up of novel product or process improvements by designing and conducting trials for lab scale, pilot scale, production scale, and/or with targeted equipment vendors.
  • Benchmarking the operated solids handling, drying, and milling processes versus internal and external best-in-class technologies and drive improvements. Documentation of most effective process technology information
  • Exploring, evaluating, proposing, and/or championing new process technologies and equipment suppliers.
Job Requirements
  • PhD or M.Sc in Chemical Engineering or equivalent chemical process R&D experience
  • (3 - 5 years) is required for this position.
  • Top candidates will have a proven track record of creating innovative solutions and delivering new process technology to achieve business-valued targets.
  • Capable of performing independently as well as interact effectively within global teams.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and effective application of process engineering technology at larger scale, modeling tools and data analysis combined with good technical documentation.
  • Strong knowledge in particle science and technology with main focus on solid handling, granulation, drying and milling of solids. Process modeling and simulation expertise would be a plus.
  • Top candidates will have a proven track record of creating innovative solutions and delivering new process technology to achieve business-valued targets.
  • Strong data analysis and technical documentation skills are required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to speak fluently in English.

This move will position Pharma Solutions to expand its industry leadership through continued investment in innovation to meet the evolving needs of pharmaceutical manufacturers and developers worldwide.


The sale is presently expected to close in the first half of 2025, pending regulatory approvals and other closing conditions. The Pharma Solutions business unit will remain a part of IFF until close and, at such time, it will transition to Roquette.
